What the trade brings/ Jason Kidd
Hey guys, first of all I'd like to open on the greatness this trade brings to Dallas.
I've said since the season Stevie left that the Mavs NEED a defensive presence at the big. We need someone to play beside Dirk, be able to make up for Dirk's lack of Defense(he has gotten SOOO much better since '06 but is still not at an all star lvl at D), rebound for dirk, so he can use his energy for offense, and give opposing teams a reason to hesitate when driving. This would help Dallas more than another scorer or a Guard Defender would. Just a big 7 foot body that could play Great D, for that, i was willing to give up a 15 PPG guy. Only problem is, the few guys that fit my description were 15 mil a year guys, or deemed "untradeable" by their organizations.
This is 2010, and it's different. I'm not predicting a championship right now, thats insane. I'm not even saying(im sure we will but..) we'll make it past the 1st round. I'm just saying this trade made be the most important and most unappreciated trade in a long time. Yes, better than getting Kidd.
Look at what Haywood has done. He's a great rebounder. He can score in the post, but doesnt require getting the ball out of Dirk's hands to score. He can play great D, and not allow the other big to double dirk, forcing a smaller guy to double, thus giving our great scoreres a chance to "make it rain" from 3's. Wow. Great. My favorite point is this:
Dirk now has to exert less energy to rebound and play D, so he is even more explosive on offense. Never thought I'd say dirk could be more of anything on offense. He's a beast!
Moving on, Caron Butler for J Howard. I can't Say im sad. Josh has a history of dropping 30 one night, then shooting 3-15 the next. He can score but he also brings trouble. He can rebound decently, and plays decent defense, but isnt great at either category. Worst of all, he didnt understand the fact that Dirk is the Leader, and that he needs the ball(and both Jasons) in the 4th quarter. In my opinion Josh is good for only if both Jasons and Dirk cant get a shot, then go to J Ho.
Caron brings better defense. A start. His rebounding isnt great but he keeps up his per-game. His scoring is something i love. Most of all that he gets great fast break points(him and Marion running the wings, Kidd pushing it, and Dirk and/or Terry lingering in the Rear for 3's sounds GREAT!!) and he understands the Dirk 1st policy. He hustles, and when he gets the ball makes a clean drive, pulls up, and unlike Howard, he looks to pass. My least favorite thing about J Ho used to be that when he took 2 or 3 dribbles going to the hole it was over. the play WOULD end in a howard miss, make or freethrow. He never passed once he started to drive.
Overall i think this trade was great. theres 1 reason and 1 reason ONLY why i put this trade over the J Kidd trade. That we didnt give up much for it. We gave up a sinking diva and trouble machine in howard, a trade machine that had only over performed in a few games in Gooden, and a few fillers. With Kidd we gave up lots of picks as well as a future point. Dont get me wrong Kidd is better but i HATED giving up D Harris.
Kidd's Play. Overall i think Jason Kidd has been stepping up in the greatest way. He's looking for his shot. I always felt he was a great scorer that was too unselfish. But hes been doing great in our 4 game streak. Looking for his own shot. Driving, pulling up, i love it. GREAT play. He's fueled the Mavs team and its great to see him get a break Vs. Indiana. I cant wait for the laker's game.
To close i would just like to say a few opinions on what we need to beat LA. 5 main things.
1.Dirk to be aggressive. I cant see us winning if dirk scores <25.
2.Kidd being aggressive. Not necessarily dropping 20, but driving, drawing fouls, and pushing the tempo. Half court D this lakers team is T.U.F.F.
3.Carlisle making some Bold move. Dunno what yet. But if he is passive as a coach P. Jack will outsmart him. I believe Rick is a fantastic coach, but sometimes too passive. He can do great things here in Dallas, Great.
4. Have at least 8 more fast break points. If they tie or beat us in this category it looks sketchy.
5. (said SOOO much) Don;t let Kobe beat us. The thing that makes Kobe great( i think hes better than LeBron for MANY reasons but anyways...) is that even when hes on a hot streak, say 10 points in 3-4 minutes, he still looks to pass. Some players get selfish when hot, so you can double team. But You cant double Kobe. Hes a scorer with a PG's mentality. Double team and LA will feast.
I not only think but am confident we can beat LA. Its a back to back from them, both Away, and i just see us slapping them with 2 15-5ish runs, in the late 1st-early 2nd quarter, and in the late 3rd quarter and just holding on through a few Laker buckets in the last 2 mins to win

I really liked the Trades
I think once the Mavericks resign Gooden they will really be set. I think with Haywood, Butler, and Gooden back they can beat the Lakers. They have a better point guard, power forward, a much better bench. Kobe is better than Caron, Bynum is better than Haywood, and Artest and Marion are pretty equal. I think Haywood could stop Bynum defensively.

Underappreaciated?
Trust me, it is very appreciated. Just gotta wait to play Nuggets/Lakers/Jazz to see how much of an improvement we really got.
Lakers isn't a fair assessment without a true backup C
but I still think it’ll be a good game and we’ve got a pretty decent chance of winning

The keys for the Laker's game is
1.) How our bigs can contain LA’s bigs. Their length and size are the biggest threats that they give us (of course, aside from Kobe). I definitely think that we would miss Dampier in this game, but hopefully Najera could be a good fill-in (because he is a good defensive player). The key is on how Dirk and Brendan can outplay both offensively and defensively the opposing teams frontline.
2.) How the Mavs will defend Kobe. He is always a tough matchup, but Caron is a big 2 guard in our rotation, and he could somehow find a way to defend/slow down (but not completely stopping) Kobe.
3.) Aggressive defense and physicality. Since the All-star break, the Mavs have been a better defensive team. Aggressive but also smart defense can hold a very good offensive team.
4. JASON KIDD
IMO, the Mavs has a better chance of winning tonight than if this game is done before the All-star break. Not only because of the new personnel, but because of the new attitude of the team. I think, this is now a team that thinks that they can beat anybody (ala Denver Nuggets). With this rejuvenated hope plus adding another back-up but third-string big (for insurance), we could go all the way in the playoffs.

Dirk may not be a shut down defender
or even make 3rd team all defensive considerations, but he’s more than held his own defensively this year. I’ve seen crazy blocks, steals, and even when he doesn’t get his hand on the ball, he alters the shot being active and putting hands up. He does not get scored all over anymore.
Haywood IS a shutdown defender. Marion still has his shutdown moments, and Butler has the ability and is showing it. Even Kidd is getting into the picture as an above average defender again. When we get Damp back, if he does come back OK, we’re going to be strong AND deep.

Wafer's goin for 40 tonight.
Only five players have averaged 25 and 10 in their playoff careers. One of them, Dirk Nowitzki.
If the Mavs can beat the Lakers without caron, Damp, and Tim Thomas
imagine how good they will be with them healthy. If they get Gooden back they have to be arguably the deepest team in the league. Gooden is a very good in the backup role, and he is very versatile. His versatility will help against deep teams. They can really dominate teams if they are healthy. They are stacked. They can compete with every team.

That’s a faulty argument. The Lakers beat good teams without Kobe, does that mean they’re way superior to these teams because they could beat them without Kobe? No, it doesn’t. Anyone can beat anyone in this league, sometimes they get cocky, and sometimes teams step up, but you can’t say we’re better than the Lakers because we beat them in the regular season with injuries. I believe they were playing a back-to-back too.
Also laughing at people mentioning Tim Thomas when they say that. Because we all know Timmy’s important role in the rotation! Get those towels ready for Dirk. A better indication of this game would of been with Damp because the Mavs probably would have played two centers to match up against Gasol and Bynum. I wanted to see that.
Woah... didnt see this coming
I didnt think i’d actually be too right when i said this.

I’m not one to toot my own horn but that was an interesting prediction. to be honest it was a little bit lucky, but you guys didnt hear me say that
(my Dad about to place a bet)"Hey Karim who do you like in the Colts Game?" "I dont know dad, Haydens out, so is Gonzalez, Bracket, Sanders, Jackson, and maybe Freeney" Dad-"Is Manning playing?" Me-"Yeah".. "Lets go with Indy"
thats was the old Mavs
the new additions add consistency. If the Mavs can beat the Lakers with key guys out. Whats stopping them from destroying the Lakers when they have Butler, Gooden,(hopefully) Damp, and Tim Thomas.

Big Z got waived,
Now why is the NBA allowing him to go to the Cav’s(if chooses to go there) when we couldn’t do that with Stackhouse a few years back.

Oh that's right,
because we’re the Mavericks.

Maybe Stern will bribe Z to go somewhere else
so the Cavs will not win the championship thus Lebron will go where Stern wants him, NEW YORK.
