Mavs Trade Damp, Carroll, and Eddy to Bobcats for Chandler and Ajinca
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NBA&hl=137833&id=765
I think they got scared that they weren't going to be able to pull the trigger on the Damp chip. Going into the summer I would have thought we could have gotten much more than this. I don't even see how you can not use it to get Jefferson and turn around and say well Tyson Chandler is just as good, let's get him.

WTF?
Tyson Chandler? That’s the best we could do with Erick Dampier’s expiring contract? Okay, Donnie Nelson is now the biggest idiot in the NBA. There was a huge, GAPING hole in the starting lineup, and C was not it! Stupid, stupid move.
maybe they like Dominique Jones more than you think...

It's just one move to complete another move.
The Mavs cleared a lot of cap space and got better players to do so. Damp was a bump.
If the Mavs can get a true PF to back up Dirk
they ought to be a really good team.
Who would you have suggested that we trade for “right now”??

Well I guess there isn't much left at PF to get
I still hope that we can get Mike Miller. What do u think?
That wasn't a dumb move.
Candler, is a heck of a lot better and younger than Damp.
Its alright
maybe we can find the potential in Ajinca that the Cats originally saw.
And, oh the irony, Matt Carrol heads back to Charlotte.
A better, Marc Stein article says they made the move to make enough salary room to go after Chris Paul...
which makes no sense whatsoever. Stein’s article also says they have offered the MLE to Al Harrington and are expecting him to sign.
I'm 110% behind this move if we can sign Paul
but we have what, a 5% chance?

Then you would be an idiot. I’ll take Chris Paul over old Kidd anyday. Paul is one of the top PGs in the game, all you can say about Kidd is he’s experienced!
I wouldn't say that's ALL you can say about the guy...
granted, CP3 is a little phenom and I do love his style of play. But Kidd holds all kinds of records among active players in the league, and his BBIQ is second to none. On a chat yesterday, Ben of Ben&Skin said he recently found out that Kidd is also, without a doubt, the most emotional leader for the team in the locker room. That’s not just old age.
So you're saying Kidd is better then Paul?
Isn’t Paul like one of the best point guards in the league?

it's all subterfuge
alexis ajinca is the main piece of this deal. he’s gonna be a monster while he hands out the towels this year. GO ALEXIS.
Hold on a second, I have some requempts.
although his d-league stats would suggest that he's doing well with sub-nba competition.
Hold on a second, I have some requempts.
Maybe the real reason that Alexis was thrown into the deal
is that Roddy needs a friend. A friend who really understands him (in language, at least). Heh.

Haha. Throw in Mahinmi too, they would be BFF's.

Harrington would be nice.
I thought he was more expensive. I’m still not sure how all of this helps with Paul though.
It doesn't. They just dumped the awful salary created in the Diop re-signign that then resulted in Matt Carroll.
And Chandler is an expiring deal, though there are dozens of those this year with the CBA ending so I doubt he’s worth a lot at the deadline.
Agreed I think the only requirement they went into the summer with in regards to the Damp chip was that Carroll was glued to it.
also, r.i.p. yo pic.
carroll will be missed, but never mentioned by me again. may i suggest a picture in a nice jj barea? you’re 2 for 2 after all.
Hold on a second, I have some requempts.
You must be right.
Unfortunately, Minny wasn’t having it. It sure seems like they could’ve dropped Carroll from the deal and worked out an agreement for Al Jeff. Lame.
I like that idea

High Five Mark Cuban!
You’re doing it!!!! Now, just get rid of Tim Thomas and DeShawn Stevenson.
yeah he's out of the league
and stevenson’s expiring after this season

The point was
to get the best they could for Damp and carroll, the package. Chandler can be a decent backup option, he’s been great when healthy. Ajinca wasn’t allowed to grow, im not sure if hes gonna make the roster, but he oughta go straight to Las Vegas. No more carroll is a win though.

Bring Howard back instead!
And why did they sign Ian if they gained a project center for them???

You think after all this talk, Cuban would pull something off, and get an impact player. It’s not like it’s horrible, but a championship GM/Owner makes better moves than this.
last year the team was improved from the year before
this year, the team is improved from last year…he’s making moves, just not huge sexy moves

Taking on Tyson Chandler and his salary...
when the Mavs could get twice the player at half the money in Shaq? They didn’t make the best choice for a center IMHO
This can't be serious, right?

If you look at it this move is practical. Who are we most concerned with, come this postseason? The Lakers. What do we need to beat them? Big men. Now we can go out and sign Harrington, a solid scorer, and at least have a chance.
My grandma has better knees than Tyson Chandler
And is more NBA-ready than Ajinca. It was a salary dump.
But it gives us flexibiliy. I think Cubes and Donnie are not done dealing. Harrington is going to Denver so we still have the MLE and the BAE and a whole bunch of trade exceptions and 30 million in expiring contracts. And the roster as it is is miles better than last year’s.
Haywood by himself is good
Chandler by himself when healthy is good – add them up and keep them healthy, and I think we’re pretty good down low

Chandler is in his contract year
he ought to play great this year if he wants a higher contract.
To be fair though
your grandmother is a phenomenal basketball player. How she went undrafted again this year is beyond me.

Donnie Nelson sealed his fate when he said he was going all in after Dirk.
Carlos Boozer, Al Jefferson, or Samuel Dalembert were the obvious choices and he whiffed on every single one going after Dirk. I’m guessing no one wants to be Dirk’s sidekick. With moves like this Dallas it seems has fallen out of favor with top FA’s. Can’t say I blame them.
Blogging simply blogging,.......
I still don't buy that. If I'm a FA I would love to come to Dallas.
You know you arent going to play on a shitty team, you’re pretty much guaranteed to make the playoffs, you have the nicest accomodations in the league, you dont pay state taxes, and it’s not cold as hell.
If the Miami debacle wouldn’t have gone down the way it did, the rest of the free agency scene would have changed dramatically. Al friggin Harrington wouldn’t be talked about as a “big sign” for any team.
All I know is the top FA's haven't expressed interest in the Mavs despite all the perks you just described.
If it were me I’d take a long hard look at Donnie Nelson’s decisions. Got rid of Steve Nash, Michael Finley, Avery Johnson, Don Nelson, Devin Harris,…….. Chris Bosh is from here and passed. Looks bad is all I’m saying.
Blogging simply blogging,.......
They have always expressed interest, but we’re never the first choice, we’re part of the list! We were on Bosh’s list kind of, but he knew position-wise it wasn’t very possible.
Getting rid of Don Nelson was smart. He’s not a ring-winning coach, he’s like D`Antoni, at least it’s kind of fun to watch.
Dallas has never been a destination for top tier free agents. Couple that with horrible drafting (Nick Fazekas, Mo Ager et al) and you have a Mavs team that is getting old quick, and management and ownership selling the lie that they are going to be major players in the market. Good luck and thanks for playing
Horrible drafting?
This is a team that last year drafted Roddy Beaubois last year (they were offered a lottery pick for him this year and rejected it) and drafted Dominique Jones this year (who just finished dominating the Summer League). Ager and Fazekes were drated 28th and 34th, respectively, so I don’t think they can quite be labeled as horrible draft picks.
