I know other SBN blogs do after the fact..

but it seems like a waste of a post to me. I don’t read it (even though it’s only a few paragraphs) because I’m confident that I’ve either picked up enough from the game or that someone in the game thread has pointed out something about the game that I hadn’t seen before.

Other than that, I think there are some really quality must read posts that need to be read, but are covered up because one of the other authors have sent it to the bottom of the page with a lecture of how the mavs’ tie their shoelaces backwards when they start a winning streak. Sometimes less is more.

Sometimes less is more.

This is very true.

I understand about the ATF

we are also hoping to attract people who didn’t just watch the game with us, while giving time for a quality recap to be written. I appreciate your input… really I do. it’s my job to listen to you guys, so if you can tell me in a constructive, reasonable post like this I am HAPPY to listen!

I may have a solution LJ...

One of the Front Page Writers over at BloggingtheBoys (SBNation site for the Dallas Cowboys)set up a FanPosts of the Week award for the site…

After he set that up Not only did the Quality but the Quantity of Fan Post go up…

Maybe one of the Writers here could do something similar?

We already post enough dumb shit between you, bbob and I.

We don’t want some random dude posting their dumb shit.

by bruce182 on Jan 24, 2011 7:14 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, but..

Some of the ATF’s, go as follows…

Dirk scored some points, JJ still sucked, JET played decently in the 4th quarter, and the Mavs won/lost.

is that really worth it? If you truly are trying to reach the member that didnt get to catch the game:
a) they aren’t going to expect the ATF to be posted 4.2 minutes after the game
b) if they are trying to get a real recap of the game, it would entail a detailed analysis of each single play by play

..whatever JJ sucks, I have a gf who is also my sister, and buckets probably can’t hit a jumper.

by bbob on Jan 23, 2011 3:31 PM CST up reply actions

might be

because you’ve seen the game. It’s good for me.

Y’all sound like Barkley complaining about showing clips of the game that just ended.

right

As Lisa mentioned, it’s geared more as a quick hits version of a recap for maybe someone who missed the game or did not participate in the GDT.

Could it be more thorough, sure. But as DOH mentioned, it works for that purpose. If it works for at least one person, I am sure it works for others. Also, it’s supposed to help keep conversation going and talk about the game…after the fact.

Plenty of sports blogs do an ATF-like routine that keeps things going until the full recap of the game posts.

by Bryan Gutierrez on Jan 23, 2011 4:33 PM CST up reply actions

You just made my point..

Why do you need an ATF that is half-assed to buy time to the full recap? Why not just put together a full recap, in due time, instead of posting random thoughts that you have 5 minutes after the game? Don’t let your ego get too far ahead of you, if the fan that doesnt have the time to watch the game needs to find out who won, they are going to espn, msn, or si.

Again, I’m trying to give constructive criticism. I find myself more and more skipping over you all’s posts because I think it’s filler to make sure you make a quota. Ensuing, I’m sure I miss relevant posts. I understand every other SBnation site does ATF, however, that doesn’t mean that their fans enjoy it.

by bbob on Jan 23, 2011 4:48 PM CST up reply actions

I’m not trying to say MMB your first stop to get Mavs news, but it is becoming a stop now. It’s not trying to massage the ego by any stretch of the imagination…but that doesn’t mean I have high aspirations for the blog.

I said it could be better, I haven’t disagreed with you on that theory. We just changed the format this week, it’s still in the baby stage.

You are definitely entitled to your opinion and it is valued but there is no agenda to meet a quota. It is just getting information/analysis and opinions out there for people to read. If you think it’s filler…that’s your opinion.

by Bryan Gutierrez on Jan 23, 2011 5:50 PM CST up reply actions

My opinion is always right.

=). My biggest point is, you all shouldn’t feel that you have to have an AFT post up quickly after the game is over. Especially, when it means it limits the non-sensical banter between us homers is cut off because the game thread comments are “closed”.

And I’m pretty sure that all of you have a love complex with the little hispanic, you should change that up.

…and, dude, I appreciate the work you guys do. If it were zk, bruce, buckets, and I running this thing it would be nothing but postings of JJ massaging Rick’s shoulders, chicks with arthritis, and squirrels on fire.

by bbob on Jan 23, 2011 6:24 PM CST up reply actions

I do see where you are coming from with the ATF, not so sure about the fact it cuts off the banter lol but oh well. Like I said, the format is in the process of changing, it is all a part of the process.

I personally don’t have a love complex with him…can’t speak for the other people on board.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on your stance with the end result of all of your opinions :)

by buckets on Jan 23, 2011 7:47 PM CST up reply actions

yes and no

Boxscore and Recaps (AP and others) are a starting point when you want to know about the game you missed, but it helps a lot when people (ATF&Recap) who watched it can point out things to look for when i view the game at it’s later availability (for me). Scanning hundreds of comments for information is too tedious.

In short, don’t just tell me JJ sucked. Tell me what different way [to suck] he found in this game particularly.

For instance, AP and Boxscore didn’t mention anything about Avery’s blunder late with the timeout.
MMB did.
Game over.

FYI

for those who are interested, as of 9:45pm ET, the ATF from last night’s game had 146 page views, and the recap posted this morning had 125. I’m not saying one is better than the other, I’m just saying people seem to be looking at it and finding it useful.

you closed the game thread 5 minutes after the game was over

i had about 50 of those because i wanted to take inventory of everyone who was too good to comment about the game while it was still going on.
