Mavs trying to trade Brewer, Fernandez?
Numerous reports indicate that the Mavs are trying to dump Rudy, Corey or both. Best guess as to why is that the Mavs spent their MLE on Carter, most of their trade exception on Odom and are now trying to find a way to add a 5 (Dalembert?)
The move is a little bit of a confusing one, leaving the Mavs relatively short at guard (Roddy, Jones, Terry, Vince), and especially short on the defensive side of the guard position.
Stay tuned. Poll after the jump.

Kidd, Terry, Roddy, Dojo, Carter
doesn’t sound short at guard. Am I missing something?
Sean Lissemore = The next Bruce Smith
Well when it's that airtight

the team is fined the way it is now
I'm confused.
Donnie and Mark are onto something and I hope it is good.

As the blog states, he's already getting paid by the Knicks..
so why not pick him up for the minimum? They aren’t clearing Rudy and CBrew for Billups, has to be for someone else.
I'm a pansy firefly. better?
i despise that guy he's a freaking ballhog, slow and wrong for the mavs
man i hope this happens

The problem is, even in the shortened season, we know Kidd can't last and still be ready for the playoffs..
I’m on the same page as you, I’d rather Roddy and DoJo take the minutes he can’t handle. But in all reality it’s a safe move for the Mavs to make if those two don’t pan out.
I'm a pansy firefly. better?
the worst part of it is the way the team is now, it looks like it would have great chemistry
and be entertaining as hell, i don’t see that with billups on it, fuck me arggh
You do realise
that usage% completely eradicates the notion that he is a ballhog, right?
i tell the truth; i lie a lot
Fuck my life
You mean to tell me that I’m going to be deprived of seeing Rudy in a Mavs uniform yet I get to see Wince’s old overrated ass in one?
All of my excitement during the draft was for nothing!

I don't care too much about shopping Fernandez
He’ll likely go back to Spain next summer anyway.
But Brewer has all the assets necessary to be a fantastic contributor entering his prime. Statistically he’s the third most efficient player on the roster after Dirk and Odom. We’ll need cheap players like him in the event we sign a Howard or Williams if we have to let some of these veterans walk next summer.

Kurt Helin: UPDATED: The Bobcats WILL NOT bid on Chauncey Billups
If no bid is put in, Billups becomes a free agent at 6 p.m. (Eastern) tonight. Miami and Billups home town of Denver would be front runners for his services.

Adrian Wojnarowski: Clippers are refusing New Orleans-NBA steep asking price for Chris Paul, league sources tell Y! Sports. “Deal could be dying,” source says
I don't blame the Clippers
Getting Paul would be great, but with just him, Griffin, Butler and maybe DeAndre Jordan I can’t see them contending any better than New Orleans does right now. If he walks, they’re back to a lotto team.
I’m also thinking the owners are willing to let the Hornets tank at the end of the season if Paul walks. Why should they pay to make a competitor better? The original LA-Houston deal would have kept New Orleans in immediate contention, and it seems they would have taken on salary. So owners are paying more for the Hornets to take more quality assets in competition with their team. Better to let them tank, and sell to another owner cheap without Paul’s contract on the books – with the knowledge that the team is rebuilding – and allow them to move to any city of the new owner’s choice. Or maybe Paul would prefer the better money and will stick around. It’s a gamble I’d take if I was an owner who didn’t really have an interest in that team succeeding.
This is what happens with a conflict of interest – owners like Cuban would love to have Paul on their own team, and he gets a say in whether Paul gets traded as part-owner of the Hornets.
by lemonbrigade on Dec 12, 2011 1:03 PM CST up reply actions
they should just say they're not tradin paul, whats the point of sabotaging
all the trades, it makes stern look even stupider
I agree
I do think they could make a decent deal by trading Paul as a rental for draft picks and prospects. That cuts payroll and doesn’t guarantee success, but is what the Hornets will need in rebuilding mode. I just think the owners are trying to force that direction one way or another.

some more news
Steve Kyler: General vibe in Orlando is Magic are not trading Dwight Howard… They will take Lakers approach and add and improve first
I thought only real shot at Dalembert
was with big TE from Chandler deal. Don’t see how it’s Dalembert if it’s just a 1 year deal.
Cuban might be willing to take the extra salary for a year
as the extrapunitive luxury tax doesn’t kick in yet. Dalembert might take a year contract to have a shot with a real contender.
by lemonbrigade on Dec 12, 2011 1:14 PM CST up reply actions
The whole thing with the year contract was us offer a high-dollar one year deal.
Like 10 million. We can’t do that without the trade exception.
I bet
we bring in someone like Kwame. No one good will settle for a 1-year deal: http://www.nba.com/freeagents/2011/

through his stats last season being mediocre it can be easier if they use Rudy or Brewer..
although i like Robin more, hes tougher in the paint and used to a fast pace offense with Nash. whichever one is fine as backup for Haywood.
Umm, this is coming from a Nets fan
Lopez is not going to be traded….at all. He was playing hurt last season, even though he played 82 game, but still averaged 20-6-1. Not to mention he went on a tear when Williams joined the team, so why would a team trade there only bright spot for a player that was waived last season(Brewer), and another player that was traded during the draft for god knows what(Rudy)?
Feels good to be back
I don't think anybody on here is serious
although, if Dwight ended up with the Nets, I’d have tried to get involved in a 3-way trade to land Brook…

My bad guys
didn’t mean to rant. I’m kinda new to the Mav’s part of the board, so I’m not familiar with posters yet, but don’t laugh when I tell you why I’ve decided to follow the Mav’s….I’m a Kidd and Carter fan lol. Hope Mav’s repeat, but the lost of Chandler will have a staggering effect.
Feels good to be back
Great addition
off the bench or starting, he will produce for the Mav’s. So if you had to take a guess, who would be the Mav’s starting 5 opening night?

All Nets fans love Kidd and Carter. Since they left, we’ve won a total of 36 games the past 2 seasons lol. I’m not hopping on the bandwagon here, but I do wish the best to my two favorite players, even though there very old and declining lol.

ya i just found out to, are you fucking kidding me doesn't the mavs front office know when its
time to just call it a day
not if they're going to trade any of their other guys
Delonte’s a useful piece…and Rudy may not make it over (on his own decision – who knows?)

mavs have a player who wants a ring first than lebron. also can be solid off the bench or starting for Kidd/ Roddy
hahaha
and will TOTALLY mindf&(k Lebron in the Finals again, if we both make it back…

Roddy should see minutes at SG and Dojo is too unproven to be the primary backup.
I really like signing West. He can play defense and take the load off of Kidd even more (Kidd probably won’t make it playing more than 30 minutes again in my opinion).
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Here's my take on all this randomness
We’re stockpiling options; We have no conventional backup PG or C behind Kidd or Haywood; however, we have extreme roster flexibility now to go “big” with Terry, Carter, and a combination of Marion/Odom/Dirk/Haywood in spurts; we can go “small” and efficient offense with Kidd (or Roddy if he’s working out), Terry or Rudy, Vince, Dirk and Odom; we can go defensive with Brewer and Delonte West out there; and if things don’t work with West, or Rudy, or DoJo, or Roddy, or Mahinmi, or Vince, we’ve got all of those options.

I give up trying to figure out this fucking team
Delonte West and Wince Carter? You have got to be fucking kidding me.

Please stop whining
Although we haven’t seen anything yet, we’re actually highly likely to be a better team than last year. We’ve just added four guys that are (or are nearly) double digit scorers (West, Odom, Carter and Fernandez). We could potentially have seven or eight guys in double figures nearly every game. All of these players can play at least two positions. Some, like Carter and West, are hungry for rings.
All our positions except the 5 are at least two deep with quality players, and even the five is flexible if we go with a Dirk-Odom-Marion lineup. And we never know – maybe Mahinmi will come into his own. Some of our third stringers would start on many teams.
We’ve also stolen the Lakers’ height advantage. Five guys over 6’10", and three can be on the court at the same time (Odom, Dirk and Haywood).
Carlisle has a plethora of lineup options to respond to every possible situation we can encounter.
And we have lots of moveable assets/expiring contracts in case something doesn’t work out. Most importantly, we’re still in the free agent sweepstakes.
I’ll take this situation where we are still easily contenders anyday, even with a little personnel drama, over overpaying Chandler, Butler and Barea to lock ourselves out of a future. I bet just about every team out there is envious of our depth. A few days ago, we weren’t really contenders; we had no players to package as a viable offer. I don’t know exactly who you were expecting to pick up, but I say the front office has made nothing but brilliant moves, as hard as it is to lose Chandler.

that gets a rec lemon
with the Donte West signing, bringing the roster up to 15 I will be putting up my roster post within the next few days….
Here’s a theoretical play from 2010: Snap. Tony takes 7 step drop. Tony looks left at Miles, who is doubled, and looks right to where Roy Williams should be…but instead sees Colombo on his back and a Defensive End foaming at the mouth jumping over Marc’s carcass. Tony proceeds to run like hell and look for Witten

Now, if somebody doesn’t agree with that, that’s cool. I also don’t agree with the fact that I don’t have $10 million in my bank account. But the fact that I don’t agree with it doesn’t make it any less true.
