My NBA Fantasy In A Mavericks Uniform

Before you guys actually read the content of this blog, I just want you all to know that everything written here about me and what I want to theoretically do for the Mavs is just a part of my imagination. I just want them to repeat. That's all.

As the season of the defending champs starts a few hours from now, I realized how much I wanted the Mavs to really defend its title despite the loss of key players they had before to win it all last year. Given all the references that I have read that most analysts and critics say that the Mavericks will not be able to repeat, I came to myself that what if I was in theory, a Mavs player? A player whose role will be the most vital to the repeat of the Mavs championship legacy. Sounds cool right? Well anyway before going to that contribution, I will describe a little more about myself and how my fantasy self will help the Mavs win the title.

I am from the Philippines and as most people know, we Filipinos are small, compared to the other nationalities in America or in Europe. Our height ranges from 5'3" to 6'0" at most and I am at 5'5". Although our race is small in stature, basketball in the number one sport in our country and we are all avid NBA fans, most especially me. We have our own national league here, but I'd rather watch the NBA televised here in the morning. When I play pickup games with my friends, I always play the shooting guard spot because I am always the team's best shooter and clutch performer when the game is on the line. I don't wanna sound cocky, but my playmates know me best when the game is close. I am a decent passer with good basketball smarts and I can attack the rim fairly well. One downside of my skills is that I am a poor rebounder and defender. I play matador defense since I really don't want to get hurt because I really play soft. But overall, I think my play really makes me a little underrated but versatile of how I play ball myself. With regards to the NBA, I think it would surprise you that I am really good at making my own analysis of individual players and teams because I am familiar with their play style, skill set and their abilities combined together in one team. With this, I will make my fantasy player in me and how I will fit the Mavs and help them repeat another championship run.

As the trademark feature of NBA 2K12's My Player game mode, I had a chance to conceptualize myself in how my game would translate in the NBA. As I have stated before, I would play the 2-guard but as a rookie starter replacing Vince Carter in the starting lineup. My fantasy height would be at 6'5" and my secondary position would be at the point guard spot. I would like to compare myself to the play of Ray Allen, who comes off screens and gets himself free with good positioning and makes spot-up jumpers. He passes well and reads the defense well, just as how I play my own game. Although I don't rebound well, I put the ball on the floor and make plays in transition. I am very unselfish when it comes to set plays, encouraging my teammates to post up or cut to the basket as I pass them the ball. I guess this all-around play would really help the Mavs come postseason.

As I imagine myself playing, I would really love to do pick-and-pops with Dirk Nowitzki as you-know-who will eventually get open as the defenders try to clog me or get myself and open jump shot when they clash in on Dirk. Most plays for 2-guards are usually off screens and I am adept at taking steals on passing lanes and I see myself giving as assist to J-Kidd or an alley-oop for Shawn Marion. I can see myself taking passes from Delonte West and shooting them balls off-balance or passing to Vince Carter through a cut in the lane. Although I am not quick or fast, I can take on others during isolation plays and with an excellent off the dribble jumper, I think I always have a great chance on scoring the ball. In transition, I would settle for sure mid range jumpers rather than hoping contested layups don't fall in. And when I'm solo on the break, don't expect me to dunk the ball. I really love playing a more finesse style than being athletic and rugged out there.

Finally, as the vets decline, I would really want to have the ball when the game is on the line. I am not afraid of the pressure and make or miss, I want to be the player accounted for that. My very good mid-range game and adequate fantasy height whether from off screens or isolation plays, I'll make sure every jumper counts.

Well, this is how I think I would be playing in the NBA. Hey, it doesn't hurt if you really want your team to win, right? As for the Mavs, I will never be able to play for them but at least in my fantasy I could have delivered a title for them.

That's cool.

Your description sounds good. If I was a Mav I’d just be a smaller and less bald Brian Cardinal.
