Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

OT Thread March 1-8

Hey, how are you? I am fine. After a good idea was posed in the caramel thread, I chose to throw up this thread because I dislike Carmelo. Okay then, I have blabbed enough.

This is the place to talk about all your random ass opinions about other teams, other players, vanilla or chocolate, m&ms or skittles, two and a half men or seinfeld, whatever.

This is the fanpost that covers everything. Ramble here. Bruce can do this next week. We can all take turns!

Ooh I wanna do this just for fun.

Using Generation I element type advantages/disadvantages which have long since been changed, this would be the difficulty. X denoting a loss using only your starter and √ a win.

Charmander: Brock X, Misty X, Lt. Surge PUSH, Erika √,
Koga PUSH, Sabrina PUSH, Blaine PUSH, Giovanni X

Squirtle: Brock √, Misty PUSH, Lt. Surge X, Erika X
Koga PUSH, Sabrina PUSH , Blaine √, Giovanni √

Bulbasaur: Brock √, Misty √, Lt. Surge √, Erika PUSH
Koga X, Sabrina PUSH, Blaine X, Giovanni √

Based on just the Gym Leaders alone the standings would be:

Charmander: 1 win. 3 losses. 4 undecided outcomes.

Squirtle: 3 wins. 2 losses. 3 undecided outcomes.

Bulbasaur: 4 wins. 2 losses. 2 undecided outcomes.

So Bulbasaur is the pick if you want to run through the first part of the game while with Charmander, you have to supplement him with pals early on. I was bored and this was fun to do.

Music stuff

From LIam Gallagher (sourcery):

“I heard that f—-ing Radiohead record and I just go, ‘What?!’” Gallagher declared. “I like to think that what we do, we do f—-ing well. Them writing a song about a f—-ing tree? Give me a f—-ing break! A thousand year old tree? Go f—- yourself! You’d have thought he’d have written a song about a modern tree or one that was planted last week. You know what I mean?”

I think he’s just jealous, though this rant amuses me… Radiohead is like fried gold so they can pretty much do no wrong. Besides, it’s a great album!

Some jams, for anyone who wants to listen:

Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers (this album is so good)

Oasis – Champagne Supernova (classic)

Wu-Tang Clan – C.R.E.A.M.

Velvet Underground -

Radiohead – Knives Out

Yes, I like her a lot

I think she only has two albums? If so, I have both. She’s a good actress as well. I have her dad Serge’s greatest hits (I don’t understand any French, of course).

Do you like Charlotte Hatherley? She used to be in that group Ash but now she’s solo.

Haven't heard Hatherley.

Her latest album is IRM. Beck produced it. That’s the only one I have.

Listening to her/watching her in Science of Sleep, then watching her in Anti Christ, I can never look at her the same way again.

Charlotte Gainsbourg's other album is called 5:55

It’s actually her second; I don’t have the first. I can upload it for you, if you want.

I liked her a lot in I’m Not There; her role was like a combo of Suze Rotolo and Dylan’s firat wife Sara. She covered “Just Like A Woman” for the soundtrack (one of my favorite Dylan songs).

The cinematography is phenomenal. Simply stunning.

But the story is meh, and it’s just very masochistic. Worth seeing once, because both of them are very good actors, but it just depends on if you can handle the last 30 minutes. It’s a true avant garde flick.

Blue Valentine is also super depressing and I think Never Let Me go could have been if it was done right. Revolutionary Road is also quite sad. I love depressing movies though; people think I’m weird for saying that, but whatever…

"Ice Town Costs Ice Clown His Town Crown"

by Marie on Mar 6, 2011 9:25 PM CST up reply actions

I thought Never Let Me Go

was brilliant…if it were isolated as a film. Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield were great.

Just that as an adaptation of a novel, and the stylistic features which Ishiguro wrote about, it wasn’t too well done for me.

Hey, you

"Ice Town Costs Ice Clown His Town Crown"

by Marie on Mar 6, 2011 11:35 PM CST up reply actions

Heh, you too :D

I didn’t derive as much emotion from reading the book as from the film. The narration in the book felt a little more distanced and reflective, and often matter-of-fact and resigned. I guess that works in itself, but it was pretty contrasting to how I felt as I watched the film.

Like, when Kathy describes Tommy throwing that tantrum near the end of the novel, that feels completely different in the film. Legitimately gut-wrenching, but in the novel, it was almost…humorous, whimsical.

The film and novel just felt like completely separate entities, except for the storyline.

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

"I've had people walk out on me before, but not when I was being so charming."

by jonthefon on Mar 6, 2011 11:38 PM CST up reply actions

The narration is throwing me off a bit

And it could explain why I’m not tearing through the novel like I usually do with books. I don’t like how she rambles and goes back and forth between memories. I suppose that the conversational style is good for some and normally I don’t mind that, but I prefer a more linear approach to storytelling. I don’t hate flashbacks, but they have to be done/told properly. I just feel like she goes on tangents.

Season 2 was simply amazing.

Took a few episodes to get their footing, but man, it was great.

Why did they just end it after the 3rd season? I think they still had a good 2 seasons in it before they had to start thinking about a wrap up or movie.

At least the movie comes out in August.

"You're failing Seymour; what is it with you and failure?"

by Maximilian on Mar 6, 2011 4:48 PM CST up reply actions

It ended in the third season...

…because of how the guys progressed in age, so they graduated at the end of season 3 and then the movie takes place when they’re 18. There were plenty of hilarious moments that got me hooked (Simon throwing up in Carli’s brother’s face was classic) but I didn’t really fall in love with the show until that episode where they went to the amusement park…that episode had everything.

Season 2…that had Pedo Kennedy, right? And the fish punching?

It's awesome...however I hate hearing the normal Laker's cheers...

Every place they go they get half the crowd’s cheers, because some dick weed decided that he has nothing to live for so he’ll make being a LA Lakers fan his number one goal in life. He lives outside of san antonio in a 1 man shack with a 14 inch TV and rabbit ears. He skins rats for a living and finally put enough skins together to make a fake fur coat that he roped a tourist in the riverwalk into buying. Now he can finally afford his used Kobe jersey and a ticket in section 342, and hes going to cheer chant and talk shit as much as he can about how he owns LA and the lakers are his boys.
