Nick Calathes vs. Regal FC Barcelona, G1
Panathinaikos Athens tipped-off the EuroLeague’s quarterfinals with a loss, 83-82, on the road to Regal FC Barcelona this Tuesday, March the 22nd, falling behind to a 0-1 series deficit.
Dallas Mavericks’ Nick Calathes started and logged 20:45 of playing time. Calathes scored five points on 2-of-5 shooting, dished two assists and grabbed a board.
Calathes started because Barça had 20 year-old Ricky Rubio matched up against 31 year-old Dimitris Diamantidis and head-coach Zeljko Obradovic wanted a secondary ball handler in there. With Calathes running the offense for most of the first-half, PAO struggled and was down two at halftime.
Panathinaikos led by three after three-quarters but couldn’t hold Barça back late as Juan Carlos Navarro, Terrence Morris and Roger Grimau hit three-pointers that gave Regal control. Yet, PAO had a chance late as Victor Sada was called for an intentional foul with 1.8 seconds left. Diamantidis hit the two free-throws but missed a contested 23 footer at the buzzer.

I totally endorse continued updates on Calathes, though a little more in-depth recap on Calathes’ play would be gravy.
Even though he’s probably JJ Barea at best.
Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.
"I've had people walk out on me before, but not when I was being so charming."
I met a Greek guy really into the basketball scene over there.
First he couldn’t understand my pronunciation of his name, but when he figured out who I was talking about he said that Calathes was a good but very young player.
