After the Fact: Dallas Drops Game 3, Still Up In Series 2-1

PORTLAND, OR - APRIL 21: LaMarcus Aldridge #12 of the Portland Trail Blazers dunks against the Dallas Mavericks in Game Three of the Western Conference Quarterfinals in the 2011 NBA Playoffs on April 21, 2011 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. (Photo by Jonathan Ferrey/Getty Images)

Lots of factors at play here, on the road with a hostile crowd.

-Terry stepped up as the #2 scorer, with 29.

-Dirk ended with an excellent stat line, as usual. It did seem like he left some opportunities on the table, though.

-Marion got a few nice baskets, but still has not score double figures yet.

-Chandler fouled out early in the 4th and played only 15 minutes.

-Roy had another resurgent game, scoring 16. It was to be expected that he'd play like that at some point in the series.

13 of 23 made FTs? Disgusting.

Uh

we have a Haywood exception in there, take off 4 or 6 misses I believe.

Haywood's FT line

He made 2 of 6 FTs. That leaves us with 11 of 17. I’m still disappointed in Dirk’s missed 3 FTs and even Barea’s. Sorry, higher bar especially when it’s late in the game.

by triplespluscv on Apr 22, 2011 12:34 AM CDT up reply actions

Let Dirk get his misses now.

He’s money in games though. Even the sun shines on a dogs ass somedays.

Blazer fan perspective

The Kidd shot was a three, the refs won us that game. If we don’t pull our heads out of our asses then this is probably over in 5 cos you guys certainly will in game 4.

No more ref comments from me

but you guys played well enough to win so take it

I started out with nothing and still have most of it left

Yeah, Roy was a surprise too

missed FTs and alot of turnovers did us in, buddy

good game, though. Nice to see Brandon playing above his emotions and doing well. Catch you next game.

true

but man, BRoy came to play. He didn’t do well in game 1 with a ton of minutes (like JJ today for our cause).

Can we expect JJ to play insanely good the next home game? – wistful thinking…

Blazers fan here.

Just wanted to say that I LOVE reading “don’t blame the refs” comments on this site. Anytime I read that nonsense by ANY fan, I have to shake my head. Yes, occasional fouls will be head-scratchers, but that’s the game. Check out Silver Screen and Roll sometime if you want to hear some major complainers.

Y’all are a classy bunch. Stay that way.

Our coaching didn't help..he loves that damn 3 guard lineup in the 4th...

It would’ve been close either way….I’m pretty confident absolutely no one in this community expected Dallas to sweep Portland..I thought it would go 7, and wont change that unless something convinces me otherwise after game 4.

I'm a friggin parrot..

by bbob on Apr 22, 2011 12:35 AM CDT up reply actions

Our coach has been with us for 5 years

and still persists with coaching a totally ineffective way of defending the pick and roll. I hope it goes 7 but I don’t think it will.

by MadBlaze on Apr 22, 2011 12:39 AM CDT up reply actions

Blazer fan...ummm...then apparently your coach and McMillan studied closely together...

I think the Blazers have HORRIBLE pick and roll defense.
Not a basketball pro…have only been watching closely for the last 3 years..seems the pick and roll isn’t easy to defend?

I'm pretty sure the Blazers won game 3 and not the refs.

But don’t count on the Mavs turning the ball over 20 times again though.

Tyson Chandler got screwed tonight, plain and simple.

I don’t think you’ll turn it over that many times again at all. Hopefully LA and Crash don’t throw up bad games on Saturday cos we can’t rely on Roy or Wes doing that again.

looks like a miracle game for roy. interesting series it will be

He looked fresh

Not playing all season will do that to you lol. Now all we need is a big game from Wallace.

Tough Tonight

I am pleasantly surprised that the game was as close as it was with all the Portland home cooking (not mad at the refs, that’s just the way it is for all home teams) and the physicality going on. Mavs didn’t back down.

Seriously, when is Carlisle going to get over his man-crush with JJ?

Jet Scoring 20+

Interesting stat by tweet from mavstats: “DAL has lost 4 straight playoffs games when he scores 20+”

What do you make of that?

by triplespluscv on Apr 22, 2011 12:41 AM CDT reply actions

portland was desperate for something good.

i was surprised JJ closed the game rather than Peja or another big. either way roy showed he can still shoot obviously. get this win on saturday and blow them out game 5 mavs!

by go87 on Apr 22, 2011 1:05 AM CDT reply actions

You guys seem to be taking this loss rather well

Is it just because you guys are still up 2-1 and have homecourt protected? I kept hearing from spurs and rockets fans that mavs fans are horrible, but ya’ll are surprisingly low key

hey, portland was desperate for this win don't get me wrong

but, i am confused as to why our 2 point guard lineup was closing the game. it’s all good though. next game is on saturday 2pm portland time…

I've read all about the "Mav's underdog" strategy...

and how it’s all BS by the players….but its not by the fans. The mantra throughout the year is we’ll see in the playoffs. So, especially knowing how tough a matchup it would be, we’re happy to still have home court with a chance of stealing one in Portland.

That being said, 1 round winning or losing, is hard to take after a decade of Mav’s success. We all believe in one thing, the Big German’s ring. No one else in the league deserves it more. So, even though we all want to slam you guys in the next two games, it means nothing unless Dirk is on the float, waving to the fanbase he built downtown. We don’t need to be “horrible” until that goal is near.

Spurs fans hate the Ginobli foul…Rockets fans hate that post-Hakeem days….Mavs fans hate that one of the top 3 stars in Texas NBA history, doesn’t have the ring that the other top 10 do.

I'm a friggin parrot..

Don't listen to what fans of any Texas team say about one another.

I personally think that the majority of both Spurs and Rockets fans are ignorant, arrogant asswipes with strange inferiority complexes (considering how many championships they have), but y’know…

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

maybe because they are Rockets and Spurs fans.

You know, everybody HATES each other, especially between Mavs and Spurs.
