Around SBN: Is Adebayor About To Become A Full-Time Spur?

For reasons not clear, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban left his bench-area seat with less than a minute remaining in the game walked out of the inner-arena area.

While the teams huddled in timeout with 39.2 seconds remaining, Cuban walked past the media work room, staring ahead, head shaking. He then walked through a hallway door and into the Mavericks locker room, where he apparently watched the end of the game.

After the game, as reporters waited outside the locker room during the league-mandated cooling off period for players and coaches, Cuban exited the locker room and walked past reporters without comment.

Still walking by himself, he walked out the Rose Garden's back dock, got into a vehicle and left.

who knows the context of any of his actions,

or his actual mood during this time. But would it really surprise anybody if he was just throwing a hissy fit?

first of all I just wanna say that, based on the comments around the mavs nation regarding this, how ungrateful people can be

I’ve seen a lot of people say “FU mark you did this to us”, “coward”, “you built this choking team”. Let’s not forget though that before cuban got a hold of this team, this team was meaningless to the NBA. we had nothing, we weren’t even contenders. Now, people keep saying that he did this but do you guys really think that he doesn’t do it for the betterment of the team? don’t you think he wants to win as well? knowing mark, he would do everything to win a championship not only for dirk but for dallas as well. Yes he may have made some stupid decisions the past years but he didn’t do that without thinking of the mavs, he didn’t just go and say “oh, I want this guy and I’m gonna get him eventhough he won’t contribute.” He did all of these for the mavericks and we should all be thankful that because of mark we have won 50 games or more 11 straight seasons, chasing our first championship. I know it’s a tough time now guys, but think rationally and think what our organization has become because of mark and dirk, think of where we came from.

we wasted dirk

we could never find that number two.

The only reason we are as good as we are is because of Dirk. Not Mark Cuban. Cuban got lucky picking Dirk. If Dallas never acquired Dirk, Dallas would have sucked all these year even with Cuban.

It’s all because of Dirk and when he leaves we will suck again even with Cuban. Bank on it.

How could Cuban make this team better?

He’s always made a pitch to available superstars out there, but we just haven’t had as much cap room as other teams to sign them. I’ve been pissed at Cuban for certain moves, but the fact is that before Butler got hurt, this was one of the more talented Mavs teams. There’s really not a #2 guy out there that was available to sign. Blaming tonight’s loss on Cuban is stupid. The blame falls on Carlisle for not stopping the bleeding and the players for not getting it to Dirk and Marion in crunch time and instead allowing JET to jack up contested jumpers and a relatively cold Kidd to throw up that horrible 3 at the end.

JET had a good look at that buzzer 3 attempt. Oh to think of the reaction if that had gone in…

Poor cap management is definitely his fault. That's the owner's job dude.

And if that shot went in people would still be talking about Mavs almost losing after being up 23.

I actually think the Mavs management has done a pretty good job building this team

Dallas has been a perennial playoff team. You’ve had what, like 7 straight 50+ teams. Letting Nash go without even a sign and trade of some sort was a blow to the franchise, but you have picked up some good players since. Chandler, Butler, Marion are all good pick ups and if you guys had Butler on Gerald this probably wouldn’t be much of a series. In fact if you had a healthy roster you would probably be sweeping NOH or MEM right now and not even facing the Blazers. Every team makes mistakes with their roster. Look at what Ainge has done to the Celtics. Portland re-uped Roy to a max deal knowing he had the knees of a 70 year old. MJ handed over Gerald for a player who will not play again. Be thankful your management does not consist of MJ, Kahn, whoever runs the Clips, etc.

No, Cuban is great for what he did in making the Mavs a name in the NBA

but multiple winning seasons are just that, winning seasons. Without the trophy to show for it, no one is gonna care. Myself included, so excuse me for not settling for less.

you get rid of Dirk and we are nothing.

by Lissyyyyy on Apr 24, 2011 3:50 PM CDT up reply actions

In fact I think you missed the point

We were able to win all those games because we have Dirk. And all those players you mentioned are not players who can put up 20 ppg. Cuban has been a complete failure for the past decade to find anyone to pair Dirk with.

Sean Lissemore = The next Bruce Smith

by Lissyyyyy on Apr 24, 2011 3:52 PM CDT up reply actions

He is a guy who can score 15 ppg and can be inconsistent

I’m talking about at least 20. Another star we can pair with Dirk. Cuban has never been able to find that type of guy.

Sean Lissemore = The next Bruce Smith

by Lissyyyyy on Apr 24, 2011 5:26 PM CDT up reply actions

we have to many people on this team that can score

to have the need for a 20 point scorer. A guy like Butler is the closest thing we have to a slasher. A guy who can drive. at the end of the game we need a drive and be aggressive , not settling for jumpers. I don’t think Butler fits that perfectly, but its all we have at this point. Would be nice to have seen what he meant to this team and put him in the mix with the rest of the talent we have for a full season.

"When people talk about Super Bowl dynasties they mention the 1970's Steelers, 1980's 49ers, 1990's Cowboys and the current New England Patriots, but nobody has dominated the Super Bowl like Anheuser-Busch. In recent years, Budweiser has been the MVP of Super Bowl advertising -- making another company the favorite to win the Ad Meter poll was never an option."

pretty sure Dallas and just about every team in the league outside of Miami and New York are in the same shoes. Well maybe LA

To have two players who can average 20+ per game is every teams wet dream. Just cause Cuban hasn’t landed a second does make it a failure and just because you have two 20+ guys doesn’t make it a success. Look at Seattle when they had Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis. They were the only team in the league with two guys that average 20+ and they got bounced in the first round.

I fell for Cuban

I took this one pretty hard today. Yelled at my wife over nothing, didn’t want to play with my kid. I was just in a foul mood. Then I realized I was being ridiculous and apologized and played with my daughter.

On the other hand, I can’t imagine how much this has to hurt for Cuban. If it bugged me this much, it must be absolutely crushing for him. I like the Mavs but he IS the Mavs. This team is everything to him. I think the entrepreneurial stuff he does is just to pass the time and this team is his life.

He’s put together a good team but its not his fault they can’t get over the hump. And there is no better owner in all of professional sports than Mark Cuban.

Wow. Two words constitutes running my mouth? Paul Allen's origins seems a pretty petty

thing to get so upset about. Unless you’re projecting your anger at your loss onto him. And me. Don’t worry, I won’t be back. We had some very nice visitors from Dallas over at the Bedge but clearly you weren’t one of them. The Mavs are one of my favorite teams after the Blazers.

They reseed in the NBA now right?

I know this is getting waaaay ahead, but if Spurs lose and Mavs win, we would play OKC with Lakers playing the Griz right?

That's idiotic...

So in my above scenario, OKC would get the 8th seed, and the 2 and 3 seed would square off.

Yup its a stupid rule

It screwed over the Suns in 07. I wish they reseeded the way the NHL did, but at this point, I may be more inclined to face the Lakers than the Thunder

by MayurP on Apr 24, 2011 10:14 AM CDT up reply actions

Wow. I thought they were considering reseeding like the NHL.
