Nick Calathes vs. Montepaschi Siena

Panathinaikos Athens overcame Montepaschi Siena, 77-69, today, May the 6th, in Barcelona to advance to the EuroLeague’s championship game.

Dallas MavericksNick Calathes started and logged 29:47 of playing time. Calathes scored 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from the foul line, grabbed seven rebounds, dished two assists and recorded two steals, accumulating a rating of 24.

He was the best player in the game. With backcourt-mate, and front-runner for the league’s MVP, Dimitris Diamantidis contained, Calathes was phenomenal creating off the dribble and extremely efficient with his mid-range shooting.

Panathinaikos plays the winner of the game between Real Madrid and Maccabi Electra for the championship this Sunday, May the 8th.

I dig it.

That’s a great line to put up, especially in such a high-leverage game as the Euroleague Final Four game.

Though I wonder when he’ll actually decide to be done with his European adventure…seems like he’s in an excellent situation where he could easily stay in Greece, be nicely paid and grow into a top player.

I hope Calathes tries to make it in the NBA

to challenge himself. He has the size, handles and shooting ability to be a successful PG in this league.

I’m not exactly sure how he would do in the NBA. He could be a serviceable backup PG, or a starting PG. It all depends on how he develops himself in Greece and what he’s learned.
