Race, Hockey, and Basketball

Stay connected for news and updates

I'm primarily a lurker on this blog (with the exception of Game 6 of the Finals, when I lit up your gameday thread), but the passion and general awesomeness of the regular commenters on this blog is really great.

I do read the SB Nation hockey blogs pretty frequently, though, an I came across a post on Second City Hockey (a Chicago Blackhawks blog) entitled "Viewing LeBron." It began as a personal critique of LeBron (very appropriate), but is full of misguided assumptions about basketball. And when I suggested that there might be an undercurrent of racism influencing these misguided assumptions, the commenters pounced upon me with explicitly racist comments.

So, I was inspired to write a response piece, and Racialicious, and incredible race/pop culture blog, published it. I don't know if any of you guys follow hockey (any Stars fans here?), but I would love to hear your feedback as basketball fans.

Enjoy, and happy drafting!
