A Needle of Bad News, In a Haystack of Celebration
Roddy B is having more foot surgery. According to ESPN's report, it was not a reinjury, but rather to address "lingering symptoms". Once again, his timetable is 2-3 months. He'll be back in plenty of time for preseason, even, especially if we do miss games due to the lockout, but clearly any missed time is valuable with a prospect as young as Beaubois.

Well...damn
Cool Story Bro Moment: For TXA’s The Fan, I cut b-roll of Roddy B at practice and making a couple buckets because of this story. Yay?

it won't make much difference
We won the championship and Roddy didn’t play a minute.

It will if JJ gets overpaid by some other team...
Then Roddy won’t be a speed demon if he keeps getting surgery on that foot.
That being said, I think Roddy will be fine. I just hope with no summer league that his development doesn’t get stunted. J-Kidd needs to just talk him through stuff.

That does suck but...
I’m starting to wonder if he will ever be as great as we thought he would anyway. Also if he plays heave minutes that keeps Brewer on the pine further. I’m hoping we let Stevenson go and Give Brewer his minutes…

my attempt at glass half full
I can’t think of a basketball player whose foot injury derailed his career. Certainly there are cases where a guy is screwed up for a year or two, but at least it’s not a lingering problem with his ankles or knees. Guys have had a bad year or two and bounced back to great careers. Look at Grant Hill (though I hope Roddy bounces back faster than that).
Also, this explains his not living up to expectations last year. Hopefully he’ll work his butt off in rehab, and use a lot of his down time to watch tape and talk strategy and tactics.
I’m glad we didn’t trade him after his rookie year because 1) that would have been a kick to the gut at the time unless the Mavs got a Star Player, which obviously wasn’t offered 2) anything different about the team’s chemistry could have swung the playoff run in the other direction 3) he still has some real promise.

Bill Walton ... the Big Z ... Yao Ming ... & the list goes on. Hopefully, RoddyB will be back.
It has commonly involved big men but foot injuries can certainly derail an otherwise promising career.
Really starting to think this is one of those deals of “What could have been!” Roddy has just stayed hurt and never really been able to contribute to the team or grow as player due to these types of things. Now I wish maybe we would have thrown him in for a big name player but that really doesn’t matter now, b/c we still won the Championship. Hope he heals up and this is the last surgery but if it’s not it may be the end of something that never really started.

Isn't it the 3rd year
we usually expect a breakout season? Think his development will have been stunted due to missing so much time so that if he doesn’t breakout his 3rd season it might be excusable, especially since PG is the hardest position to learn.

you can't learn to.be.a.PG
A.PG.Should have to start play PG as a young t teen or kid. It’s not.only a matter of skill, that will all skill Roddy have I.still don’t know if they are enough to cover the PG spot, it’s a matter of.good decision making, ball handling, and most of.all.basketball IQ.
