"Dirk Nowitzki, out with a sore knee, has averaged at last 20 points for 11 straight seasons. He is at 17.5 this season, with lowest FG pct (.456) and 3-point percent (23.5) since his rookie season. Second-leading scorer is Jason Terry at 13.8, and he doesn’t start. Watch for a Shawn Marion trade, the key to getting both D12 and DWill."

what are we, the lakers?

no sense in trading marion during the season (or at all. just give dirk a year longer or get a discount from incoming longshots to have enough room)

Can't bank on discount for longshots

Sheridan expands on how a Marion trade would allow for both signings this summer here:

I think it’s an interesting theory, but I’m not sold on selling him during the season. Unless Cuban can trade him for worthwhi8le draft picks or expirings that are very useful this year (which’d be quite a coup), he can just wait.
If Dwight and D-Will are willing this summer, they can pawn Marion off for 2nd round picks and/or trade exceptions then.

ok, maybe not on the discounts, but perhaps they add a year to dirks contract (lowering his yearly salary accordingly) which is possible in the new cba. That could be enough.

it all depends on howard anyway

until he is traded/ deadline passed, nothing important may roll

Yeah, the odds of trading Marion during the season strike me as low. They’ve trod a fine line between cap space and competing pretty evenly but that would be WAY over it. And Sheridan’s estimation misses the Mavs fairly obvious signs of life, too….

NO! Hope we keep our veteran core of Dirk, Terry, Kidd, and Marion.

I hope all they get is a reduced salary, would hate to lose any of them. It would be very difficult to win another one without these key guys.

Hey, you guys listen to ben and skin? They’re getting toast, especially Skin, for saying Dirk has been on a decline. Really hope Skin is wrong. Who knew he had a medical background? Basically, Skin is saying that like KG and Duncan, Dirk is starting a decline because of his knee and playing for more than 41K minutes. Dirk, please be alright.

no worries Dirk is still in his prime, and the whole thing of age is just stupid to begin with

what you’re seeing with duncan and garnott is nothing more then them being overrated for years
they did well enough in their careers but they always pretty much sucked, and why is everybody jumping on Kidd for a few sub-par games it should’ve been four out of four wins on the road trip with him running the show and everybody playing erratic on the mavs even in these games Kidd grabs 5 steals or 9 rebounds or 11 assists jees and he’s not even playing big minutes. Can’t overestimate training staffs as well, seems like Dallas has a great one i’d put money on Dirk coming back and being one of the top 5 players in the nba for years to come

I'll give and example of some players when Stockton retired he was one of the best players

in the nba, Malone could’ve easily played another 3 years, never mind Jordan who can probably play now recently Kobe scoring 40 points in 4 games straight, SUPERSTARS man
it’s what they do

Good point.

I don’t know why suddenly people want to throw Kidd under the bus just because he missed all those shots. Those shots will start falling. They don’t seem to understand how much Kidd affects the game for the Mavs. People are saying, he shouldn’t be shooting that much 3s but he was open, of course, he should shoot the ball. You don’t pass up an opportunity like that in basketball.

Re: Dirk.

That is a load of BS. I think even Dirk admitted he didn’t hit the gym as hard this offseason, because he finally got his ring [at least he’s going to this Wednesday :D ]. Give him this week to build some strength in his legs, and he’ll be back to his normal self soon. The compressed schedule certainly isn’t doing any favors for our older guys, either.

All these people saying things like this and panicking...is not good for my health

to hear it from someone like Skin…never imagined it (not saying I look up to the guy). I do think that he will be alright but all this negativity is just terrible. Marc Stein gave some pretty good reasons not to panic as well.

Anyway, will the Mavs’ ring ceremony be on national tv? or will it be on live stream? cause I’m in California so I don’t get Fox Sports Southwest. Excited to see what those rings look like.

Our perimeter D is bad enough

without losing Marion who’s our most versatile defender. Who’d we get to guard Kobe, LeBron, etc? The 90-year old Carter or Kidd? It’s bad enough our backup guards are tiny (Beaubois, Terry). We’d rely on the zone like it’s oxygen. I miss Brewer, C. Butler, and DeShawn…

LO is an great option for guarding kobe, lebron, and so forth.

my dude Vince Carter can work the paint swell. just needs to be healthy like Kidd throughout. its tough to miss butler when he barely played the season. cant believe stevenson went elsewhere although it makes sense. mostly due to the problems off court. and for brewer.. he had good spurts but only against LAL..
