The player the Mavericks are cutting to obtain Troy Murphy is Eddy Curry, not Dominique Jones, per Marc Stein. This move brings their roster back down to fifteen players.
Mavs, I'm told, poised to waive Eddy Curry -- NOT Dominique Jones -- to make roster room for Troy Murphy

Curry played a good game in Los Angeles, but regressed the next day against Utah. He had two points, missed a pair of free throws, committed two turnovers and had no other stats (mostly meaning he didn't rebound, either) in his eight minutes. Clearly, this was enough for the Mavericks to part ways with him.
Of course, on the other hand, Dominique Jones has yet to have eight good minutes in the NBA. For whatever reason, the Mavericks still want to hold onto him for the time being.
If Murphy is healthy, he's probably better than Curry. That remains to see.
