How stupid does Cuban feel for keeping Dojo and Roddy over Lin, given the fact that Lin outperformed both of those idiots in the summer league and Roddy and Dojo will amount to nothing?

on a scale of

0 to Lin?
Ca. 0.5, tbh

Just in Case (you are not aware you’re trollin’), check your facts, if not your language. Jones and Beaubois had guaranteed contracts. They were not going to be waived in any case.

Also, Guard Depth Chart at that Time 1. Kidd. 2. Terry. 3. JJB/Injured Roddy 5.Jones.

Mavs liked Lin, offered him an unguaranteed 1-year contract. So did other Teams. Warriors topped that with 2 years, 1st year half guaranteed.

He wasn’t that great with the Warriors, partly because of hometown-pressure and partly because they just used him as a marketing tool. Never wonder why Chris Bosh didn’t want to play for Dallas?

Exactly.

Also partly because of Ellis & Curry ahead of him + Smart Coach = lack of opportunity.
And he said himself recently that he put too much pressure on him to prove he belongs in the NBA and struggled consequently that year. He’s since come (through faith, largely) to more of an ease with himself. He’s not trying to prove anything, just playing and enjoying basketball.

Warriors waived him at season’s start. So did Houston after picking him up. And the Knicks were prepared to waive him after the Jersey game, too.

He just seized the opportunity.

I think a lot of ‘Fans’ of various teams that are whining why their team didn’t keep Lin are just greedy. Can’t y’all just be happy for the guy?!

The Mavericks are terrible.

11 straight 50-win seasons… what a fool, Donnie Nelson is.

my point still remains

Sean Lissemore = The next Bruce Smith

What's your "point"? You gave absolutely nothing to support the claim.

You know why the Mavs haven’t really developed so-called “young talent” recently? It’s because they win 50 games every season and pick low in the draft, where the possibility of finding someone with the ability to become a decent NBA player is very low.

Which is great

but without Dirk that would not be the case, and Dirk is not going to be amazing forever.

And how did we get Dirk? As a young player. In fact he was the only draft pick that really turned out well for us recently. If you can’t acquire and develop young players then you are not going to be successful in this league.

The idea of "youth development" being the one and only key to success is utter bollocks.

Teams are successful in the league when they acquire talent – in any form. The Mavs are successful and have maintained success because of a mix – yes, Dirk was drafted and developed but pretty much every other player important to their success in the past few seasons was acquired by the organisation when already-developed (in the sense that they had generally actualised their potential), and not very young.

Of course it would be really good if the Mavs could find a stud youngster and turn him into a superstar like Dirk did. But given the situation they face, that’s really quite unlikely and if they’re unable to do so, I don’t see how it’s a crippling failure on their part or a cancerous problem, given the other ways they can go about doing things.

And if you supposedly want to use Jeremy Lin and Roddy B as supposed evidence (and it’s not good evidence: we don’t know how Roddy will turn out, even if you’re jumping to conclusions based off a week-and-a-half’s worth of games) of how the Mavs supposedly have this “problem”, you can’t look past the fact that the Mavs did a pretty good job with Josh Howard and Devin Harris, and even guys like Marquis Daniels or Brandon Bass.

Deron Williams doesn't have a ring but Dojo does

Dojo must be better than Williams! LOL!

It's still a more compelling argument than

“lololololol Jeremy Lin is definitely better than Rodrigue Beaubois after seven or so games”.

Only homer Mavs fans think Roddy is better than Lin

If you told any basketball fan outside the city of Dallas that Roddy was better than Lin they would laugh in your face, and in all likelihood have you committed against your will.

Yeah, and just a year ago if you tried to tell any basketball fan outside the city of Dallas

that Dirk wasn’t a playoff failure, they’d laugh in your face as well. Don’t bother appealing to the majority.

by jonthefon on Feb 17, 2012 7:36 AM CST up reply actions

And plus the argument wasn't even "Roddy is currently better than Lin"

it was related to whether Roddy “would” be better than Lin or not.

So again, you failed terribly in proving your point.

How do you know what reasonable individuals think?

Clearly, you don’t. Stop appealing to authority and start making a fucking reasonable argument already.

Please go to any other SB Nation NBA blog

make a fanpost saying Roddy is better than Lin and see what kind of reaction you get.

Try and give me a good reason for your argument

instead of pussying out and telling me to ask someone else.

Plus

do you think that commenters on other SBN NBA blogs would have actually watched enough of both Lin and Roddy to make a reasonable assessment of what either could be?

I don't think Cuban feels stupid at all, that Championship trophy he sleeps with at night will keep him from feeling stupid

It was Lin’s decision not to sign with Dallas and it probably worked better than anyone could imagine considering his position right now.

Honestly, what is there to complain about? The Mavs just one a championship, are on a 5-game winning streak against good teams, are playoff contenders, and are in a position to acquire big-name free agents next year.

New York can keep their Lin and I think it’s too early to assume that Roddy and DoJo will go nowhere in this league. That reminds me, please accept our condolences Roddy.

Hoping for another ring or two before Dirk or Kidd or Terry retires.

Roddy's capabilities...

…on both ends of the floor are superior to Lin’s, from what I’ve seen so far. Doesn’t mean he ever gets playing time over the veterans.

But who knows, maybe we’ll see a stretch of breakout games from him soon. Although no one would take note, since Dallas is not NY.
