Basketball Reference's New Play Index+ is Totally the Bee's Knees

And on the seventh day, Basketball Reference created Play Index+. And the Play Index+ was good.

The most wonderful Basketball Reference (where I get most of my data for many of my posts) has created a new tool called Play Index+ and it really is worthy of divine inspiration. Allow them to explain their own handywork themselves.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the debut of Basketball-Reference.com's latest and greatest set of research tools: Play Index+. Play Index+ utilizes over ten years of play-by-play data, allowing the user to sift through and summarize millions of plays with just a few clicks of the mouse.

What does this mean? This means that in only a minute or two, you can troll Kobe! Realize that Russell Westbrook is actually pretty good! See that HOLY CRAP KEVIN DURANT IS GOD!

It also reaffirms that Jason Terry is also pretty bananas in the clutch along with other wonderful things that you will see pop up here at Mavs Moneyball (and every other basketball site) for the rest of time.

Finally somebody did it

This is exactly what I can do with my playbyplay data and I was wondering why StatsCube and Co. are so limited and don’t have the full features that a playbyplay anaylsis offers. All respect to the folks of BBref.

You’ll find that Kobe takes over half the shots and has a worse FG% than any other Laker who’s attempted 1 shot. Assist and FT numbers make it even more hilarious.
