Linsanity could be good for the Mavs
I watched the Mavs and Knicks last night and was pretty unhappy to see this rookie who got away playing so well. Even though the Mavs became the latest Lin victim last night, there may be a silver lining to this cloud. How long do you think Deron Williams wants to be that "other" New York point guard? And how quickly would Dwight Howard change his mind about the Nets if Deron goes home to Dallas? 3D, baby!

sorry man, im not buyin it....
there seems to be a lot of nervousness and apprehension flowing around about the possibility of the mavericks completely imploding this summer and rightfully so…i dont see how this lin madness would have much effect on our chances of success in attempting an on-the-fly rebuild with deron and/or dwight….youre suggesting that deron wouldnt feel that NYC isnt big enough for two star PGs? youre reaching dude…im sticking with our better argument that dwight will have little interest in joining up with one of the worst teams in the league…lottery picks and marshons be damned…im afraid of what this team might look like next season too because nothing has changed to relieve the fact that the likelihood of landing one or both of those players isnt very high, but thankfully we have a great front office that we can be confident has their ducks in a row…the nets still have the upper hand and we will have to wait and see what happens.
How
is NJ going to be one of the worst teams in the NBA next year? They lost Lopez early in the season don’t forget.
They could roll with this next season:
C Howard – Petro
PF Lopez – ?
SF ?
PG D. Williams – Farmar
SG M. Brooks – A. Morrow
They’ll still have some cap space left over with which to fill out the roster. Add a cheap UFA SF like Pietrus or Barnes and you’ve got a #3 – #8 seed. Howard/Lopez could be the best/most-talented C/PF duo in the league.
NJ isn’t a team where the star is in his early 30’s. All of NJ’s best players are in their prime for a few more years at least. Plus, the West is way deeper than the East and will be for the next few years so Howard knows his best chance at being on a perennial contender is signing with an Eastern team.

damn....
haha, i had a feeling when i typed that part that someone was gonna expose me as being out of touch in my limited knowledge of the nets….you got me…are they really missing lopez THAT much? i know hes a good young player with a huge upside but im not real familiar with him, obviously…so the nets fans arent just being overly optimistic homers when they say that they will be a full-on contender and drastically better than they are now if they add howard and another top ten pick? i had yet to hear or read anything from an unbiased source that they would be much better than orlando is now….judging by other posts of yours that ive seen, you obviously know your shit…so, what should we, as mavs fans, be holding onto then as reassurance that we wont be left next year with an even older roster and cap space with no one to spend it on? are we just going with “the good spirit of the forest is a MFFL and will bring deron home” theory which is essentially what it boils down to now cuz we aint got the money, the youth, the draft position, or….really anything else except the mavericks being a good organization to play for…cross that bridge when we come to it i guess…donnie probably has a slavic magic johnson reincarnate hidden in his sock drawer but still, theres gotta be some rhyme or reason to the moves theyre making that are based on more than sheer luck that orlando wont trade…maybe im the nervous one, hah.

Not worried if we can't sign D3 and DW.
I say for the price of those 2 guys, we could sign 3-4 solid young players and end up a deeper team than if we got those 2 and younger and more athletic than the team we have now.
Go ahead with the dumping of everyone we were planning to to clear capspace for D3 and DWill, and go after UFA’s like Nick Young for SF/SG, Landry Fields for SG/SF, Hawes for C (great rebounder and shot-blocker who brings way more on O than Haywood does, Hinrich or Mo Williams on short contracts for PG or make an offer to RFA D. J. Augustin which CHA won’t match bc they have K. Walker, etc. Might still have room to bring back Mahinmi, Wright, Beaubois, Carter, and Jones and we’re set.
Basically we’d be as deep as or even deeper than we are now but a lot younger and more athletic. Instead of the top-heavy Heat, we’d be more like the one stud-and-a-bunch-of-very-good-role-players Bulls.

But it's Howard!
I agree with your point entirely and I think that’s the thinking in the front office as well. Cuban said as much in his blog. Still, I just KNOW Howard’s going to win multiple championships SOMEWHERE …

How about
DH, Dirk, and NASH next year? That’d be fun. DH would be auditioning for the slam-dunk contest the first half of the season with all the highlight alley-oop slams he’d be doing.

He
is not a rookie. It’s his 2nd year.

Looks like there IS room for two stars ...
Sure looked like Deron had had about enough of “Linsanity” tonight!
first they lose to worst team in the west.. now worst team in the east.
this season has gotten too interesting.
