There was, of course, not much red meat in Donnie's presser today, but we did learn a couple of things. First of all, he gave his clearest statement yet that the Mavs wouldn't mind getting a PG or C in the draft. He mentioned that it's a C heavy draft so they might "get lucky", and that there are likely to be some "true point guards" in the area of their pick.
However, he stressed that the Mavericks expect a rotation player but not a starter, this year, out of the draft, and will therefore be drafting the best player available whoever it is. Worth noting that the only player they've worked out twice is PF Arnett Moultrie, from Mississippi State, who averaged 16-10 last year.
On Deron Williams, Donnie said the only thing he can say, which is that they're ready and they're in the running, and if I were y'all I would try to remember all the stories that knew where LeBron was going before July 1st, and try to take it as easy as you can.
One thing I will say: The NBA draft is tomorrow. I don't necessarily expect the Mavs to trade their pick, or to trade for a pick, but, and this is important, once the draft happens EVERY team will have that much less flexibility to make trades work. For the kind of trades the Mavericks have to make, mostly salary cap moves that don't result in any significant talent coming this way, these next 24 hours are absolutely the best possible time. So keep your eyes open, and don't sleep. Ever.
Update: Rumor is, Houston's traded Dalembert to Milwaukee, presumably for picks. The Houston draft picks situation is reaching critical mass. No sleeping.
