Four-Pointer: Previewing the Memphis Grizzlies

Jesse Johnson-US PRESSWIRE

The Grizz are not quite as fearsome these days.

What has Memphis done lately?

Not much. Sitting at 10-14, the Grizzlies have lost four straight and nine of their last 12 games. A rash of injuries, including Marc Gasol missing an indefinite amount time, has crippled a season and has the team sitting dead in the water. Other injuries include Mike Conley missing a few games and a Quincy Pondexter missing the rest of the season.

What's the biggest matchup to watch?

It sounds like Conley won't be suiting up -- although stay tuned for that -- so give me Zach Randolph against Brandan Wright (he played both PF and C against the Bucks). They are literally as different as two people playing the same position can be -- Randolph never even leaves the ground and Wright is a high-flying guy who's probably still too skinny. It should be a fun match-up as the Mavericks try to prevent Z-Bo (who is, granted, a shell of his former self) from having a 20-rebound night.

What's the second-biggest matchup to watch?

Aw, c'mon. It's obviously Nick Calathes vs. Gal Mekel after the Mavericks spurned the first to acquire the second. If Conley is out, there's no doubt Calathes gets some heavy burn and Dallas can see first-hand what they could have (for better or for worse, obviously).

What stat, player or fact might surprise you about Memphis?

Despite his likely inactive status for the game, Mike Conley is killing it. I knew he was having a good season, but make this man an All-Star! He's averaging 18.2 points on 48/34/84%, 6.3 assists, 1.3 steals and just 2.1 turnovers per game. Dayum.
