I live in San Antonio, and sometimes it seems that routing for the Mavericks is a difficult proposition. At times finding good Maverick’s news may be difficult. Every day I listen to the same sport talk radio when I am driving home from work, and when they are not talking about the Dallas Cowboys they are discussing Spurs. Don’t get me wrong, I do think the Spurs are a fabulous franchise and I route for them, but not when the Mavs are in town. Anyway, today the media was discussing a hypothetical situation concerning DeMarcus Cousins. They were discussing who would have the bigger impact on this young center if he happened to be traded to San Antonio. (I don’t think there is much news on this trade front.) They mentioned, "That the Spurs winning environment, Pops tough love, and Tim Duncan could get this youngster to mature and reach his potential." During the discussion, they talked that this young player had many of the physical tools and the Spurs system should help him at least reach all-star status. This got me thinking whether the same concepts could occur to DeMarcus Cousins if he was traded to Dallas. With the Mavericks, Cousins will have the opportunity to see the work ethic of a future Hall of Famer in Dirk Nowitzki. He would have an excellent coach in Rick Carlisle, and the winning culture the Mavericks have built while Cuban has been the owner. These are the same or similar ingredients that were mentioned during the Spurs sport talk discussion. So far this year, we have already seen the growth of Darren Collison and the "Juice" O.J. Mayo under the culture and guidance of the Mavericks system. Could the same happen to DeMarcus Cousins?
