Hey Moneyballers, I'm over from Bright Side of the Sun. Had a proposal/question for you all.
Now that the the Dwight sweepstakes and the Bynum scenario have played out, is there any potential interest in Marcin Gortat? I'm not gonna lie and make Gortat out to be better than he is: he's probably an average caliber NBA center. He's not a banger down low offensively, and he sometimes get beat up down low defensively against bigger centers. What he is, however, is incredibly solid in pick and roll offense. In 2011-12, Nash's last season with the Suns, he put up really solid numbers: 15 and 10 on 55% shooting, a lot of it off the pick and roll with Nash. He's also a decent enough defender generally, usually averaging between 1.5-2 blocks per game. With the recent addition of Calderon, and Dirk's need to play in the high post and from mid-range rather than banging constantly down low, it seems like Gortat would be a good fit.
The interest would be in acquiring picks and players. I know you've already sent the protected 2014 first to Dallas. Could a trade of Brandan Wright (S&T), a 2016 1st, and Jae Crowder for Gortat and Malcolm Lee work? If not, what about replacing Crowder with your 2014 2nd and the 2014 second from Boston?
Suns: Brandan Wright (S&T), 2016 1st, 2014 2nd (via Boston)/2014 2nd (Mavs) OR Jae Crowder.
The most important bit is the interest. Just trying to gauge if the fit seems as good to you all.
Have a good one!
