Mavericks' Devin Harris will play tonight against the Trail Blazers

Ever since signing with the Mavericks this offseason, Harris has been rehabbing a toe injury...until now.

UPDATE:

Also, Jose Calderon will play tonight, albeit with a protective sleeve on his knee. He suffered a right knee contusion in the third quarter of last night's win over Phoenix and did not return.

After missing exactly half of the season (41 games), SportsdayDFW reports that Mavericks guard Devin Harris will make his season debut in Dallas against the Portland Trail Blazers.

"Two sources said Harris is expecting to play, assuming he has no complications leading up to the game."

Harris signed in the off-season for one year at the veteran's minimum, a huge discount for a player of his caliber. Although he had been aiming for a return around Christmas, a minor setback pushed his return back by a few weeks.

Now healthy, Harris will bring a veteran presence to the backup point guard spot and some perimeter defense, two things the Mavericks have sorely lacked this year. Of course, the key with Harris is that he has to stay healthy, something he's struggle with throughout his career, playing fewer than 60 games five times.

The return is especially timely with back-up point guard Gal Mekel suffering a meniscus tear that required surgery, and Jose Calderon suffering a right knee contusion in last night's game against Phoenix. The current status of Calderon is unknown, but if he is unable to go, Harris will be thrown into the fire immediately to share the duties with rookie Shane Larkin, coming off a career-high 18 points against the Suns.

We'll update you when news comes out.
