Four-Pointer: Previewing the Philadelphia 76ers

USA TODAY Sports

SAM HINKIE BLEW IT UP!

What has Philadelphia done lately?

Oh, not too much. They've lost nine games in a row. That's pretty much it.

*phone rings*

"Hello? Wait, what's that? No, you've got to be joking. You're not? You're serious? And it all happened yesterday? Hold on, I need a minute."

*hangs up phone and stares blankly at the wall while blood starts to trickle out of nose*

Okay, the Sixers were very active at the trade deadline. Their morning started off by trading Spencer Hawes to the Cleveland Cavaliers. They received Earl Clark, Henry Sims (I don't know who he is), and two second round draft picks. Then the team acquired Eric Maynor in a three-team deal that sent Andre Miller from the Nuggets to the Wizards. The Sixers came away with two more draft picks in the Maynor deal.

Take a deep breath because GM Sam Hinkie wasn't done yet.

The 76ers then went and traded for Byron Mullens. Remember him? The Mavericks drafted him in first round back in 2009. They swapped him for the Thunder's draft pick: Roddy Beaubois. Enough with the walk down memory lane, back to the Sixers!

Alright, so Philly sent the Clippers an as yet to be determined second round draft pick because they have plenty of them laying around.

Mullens put the roster at 17 players. You can't have 17 players on an NBA roster. Hmm. Luckily, Hinkie knew exactly what to do. TRADE FOR DANNY GRANGER! *thunder clap*

Philly sent Lavoy Allen and Evan Turner to the Pacers in exchange for Granger and his expiring contract. I personally like Allen so it's good to see him on the Pacers.

At the time of this writing the Sixers have one too many players on the roster. Someone is going to get cut.

I think that is everything that happened yesterday.

*UPDATE: EARL CLARK HAS BEEN WAIVED, LONG LIVE EARL CLARK!*

What fact might surprise you about the Sixers?

ALL YOUR SECOND ROUND DRAFT PICKS ARE BELONG TO PHILLY! At one point the Sixers had nine second round picks in this summer's draft. I'm not sure how many they have now but it is likely no fewer than eight.

Which team stat might determine the game?

It's not really a stat but it will be interesting to see how many of the new Sixers players actually show up to the game. Even if they do show up, what are the chances that they play? The team already had four players out with injury before they made all their moves so the bench could be incredibly thin. This could be like that one game the Lakers played earlier in the year where only four players were eligible towards the end of the game.

Wait, the Lakers won that game. Maybe having so few players won't determine the game. No, hold on. This is the 76ers, it totally will.

What do the Mavs need to do to be successful against Philly?

Just show up. It's pretty much that simple. Show up and score at least 70 points and that should do it. Take the night off defensively. Well, actually take the night off instead of just trying and playing poor defense.
