MMB Exit Roundtable, 2013-14: One word to describe the season

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

The fourth of our eight-part Mavs Moneyball Exit Roundtable, looking back at the year that was. This post's question asks for one word to describe the season and why it fits.

4. Give one word to describe the season and why

Doyle Rader (@TheKobeBeef): Wistful. It was obvious from the start that this Mavericks team was a player or two away from being truly competitive. One couldn’t help but wonder "what if?" as Dallas squandered plenty of leads and a short-lived tenure of Gersson Rosas.

Bailey Roger (@BRogers789): Stressful. Pick any Mavericks game from this season (other than a regular season matchup against the Spurs), watch it and tell me I'm wrong. I dare you.

Josh Bowe (@Boweman55): Excitement. Just from my personal experiences, a lot of my friends were tuned out of the Mavs during last summer. The team in 2012-2013 was awful and there was no promise. So it was neat to see that even though this team wasn't a title contender, it got people excited to watch and talk about the Mavs. This team had numerous flaws, but it provided so many great moments like the three wins in the playoffs, the Portland and New York buzzer beats, the comeback against Houston and so many more. In the two previous seasons, it felt like watching the Mavs was a chore. This season brought the fun back.

Tim Cato (@tim_cato): Experimental. Could an top three offense really make up for atrocious defense? Answer: NAH. But it was fun though, huh?

Alan Smithee (@SmitheeMMB): Nostalgic? Dirk looked like Dirk again for large stretches of the season. The Mavericks resembled the old early-aughts teams that come really score but had trouble defending. Devin was back.  In both good ways and bad there was a familiar vibe to this season.

Andrew Tobolowsky (@andytobo): Fun. It really was. This team didn't really have any prolonged slumps, and they competed with just about everybody. It also extraordinarily stressful but I think I'll forget that part.

Kirk Henderson (@KirkSeriousFace): Fun. I had a great time watching basketball this season. I wrote about it HERE.
