The Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Finley trio played together for the first time since 2004 at Dirk's Celebrity Baseball Game, bringing back memories of a Mavericks team that seemed sure to win several championships.
Last week in an interview with the Huffington Post, Nash looked back and agreed.
"I don't think about; I think it feels futile to even go back and think about it, but yeah. I think we would have won maybe more than one championship if we had stayed together," he said. "I played my best basketball from that point on. Obviously Dirk was unbelievable and won a championship there. I think it could have been something."
In actuality, that's debatable. Nash is a professional athlete and of course he thinks that team would have worked. Maybe they would have! But Dirk probably never would have won an MVP if he wasn't forced to truly lead the team at every step when Nash stepped away, and the same can likely be said for the Canadian point guard.
Still, there's always regret and it would have been incredible to see what that team could have done if they had stuck together a couple more seasons. Obviously, it's not something we could ever know for sure.
"The arrogant, cocky part of me is like, 'Yeah, we would have won,'" Nash said.
