Lamar Odom

So, yeah. Im currently eating my words when it comes to Vince Carter. I have not fully caved in and started to love the guy, but he seems to be a chill locker room influence. I disliked him for what might have been a Diva-like and thuggish persona, but so far he has been a player who has shown nothing but love for the game and effort on the court. He talks on D, and works hard. He doesn't fancy himself a ballhog superstar, yet knows he's here to shoot. I am slowly starting to accept the guy, and I've always at least liked watching him. He's dynamic.

My love for the boys in blue has also gotten me to accept West into the lineup. Rather, I actually like Delonte West. Before Dallas, he didn't seem like a true point guard. However, since joining us, he seems to be starting to become what is a dream of a guard: A great dribble drive threat with passing skills to dish it out when the D collapses. Oh, and he can shoot, too. He's also not a liability on D.

Given a few more weeks, I'll begin to love Vince, as I loved anyone. The problem to me remains Lamar Odom. The problem with Odom is that he is not producing well with us, obviously.

Observations of a Lurker: SacTown Royalty

Hi Ya'll. I am sure a few of you know me from Blogging the Boys, and know that I am fairly active over there. And while I freely admit that the Cowboys are my first love, I do root for most "Texas Teams", particularly the Mavericks and the Rangers. So every once in a while I post and Comment over here. Well LJ and I had a small Conversation.

To that end this post was born. I was looking for something to do over here so I figured I would meander over to SacTown Royalty and see how they were reacting to the Utter Beatdown that the MAvericks were laying upon them. Needless to say, there were some Gems. Follow me past the jump To see what I saw. For the sake of those over at SacTown I will be removing the names of those posting that I am using. This is simply Because I don't want to "call anyone out" and to protect those involved. And to Be clear the bolded Statements are the ones from SacTown. any non Bolded are my own thoughts....

Dallas Mavericks 99, Sacramento Kings 60: The JJ sucks edition.

In case you missed the game tonight, you missed an absolute thriller. Don't let the score fool you folks, this was a nail biter. Yes, I know what you are thinking... a nailbiter versus the Kings? Seriously? I'm here to tell you that I was on the edge of my seat the entire night. Like Jose Juan Barea running the point, I dribbled all over myself in absolute fear that the Mavs would find a way to give this gimme away.

All Star Voting

I do this every year and every year Dirk still isn't a starter. This year he's coming off a season where he's a NBA champion and a finals MVP. It's a travesty that he's going to have to go to the All Star as a coach's pick. Take 5 minutes out of your day and vote for Dirk from your home computer, your work computer, and your cell phone. You can vote everyday and you don't even have to vote for every starter spot. You can just vote for Dirk and submit.

Forwards: Kevin Durant (OKC) 633,538; Blake Griffin (LAC) 394,264; Dirk Nowitzki (Dal) 231,832; Pau Gasol (LAL) 185,428; Kevin Love (Min) 143,814; LaMarcus Aldridge (Por) 118,268; Tim Duncan (SA) 81,783; Lamar Odom (Dal) 59,686; Metta World Peace (LAL) 39,006; Danilo Gallinari (Den) 34,438.

Seriously, Blake Griffin over Dirk? Come on, people.

Mavs Need Not Panic

The Mavs' first win of the season was great, and i was a timely moment to celebrate for. New Year is coming and it's a sign that the Mavericks and its fans should not panic at all.

The first three games against Miami, Denver and Oklahoma City that resulted in losses were difficult to swallow, and we all know that adjustments have to be made. I would never blame the management nor its players for these losses because no one wanted to lose. This is the case for the 11 50-win seasons of the Mavs who showed consistency every regular season and this one should not be different. There are changes for every team, and all goes through the same thing, adjustment.

As I watched NBA TV's The Beat, the people on the show talked about the losses the Mavericks faced against the first three teams they faced. As they talked about the moves on their personnel in which the Mavs did not re-sign Chandler, Barea and Stevenson, they pointed out how these people would have significantly changed how the Mavs play D. But as they talked this with TNT's Steve Kerr, he pointed out that this move by the organization was good, because it was seeking for a more productive and longer competitiveness by staying flexible for the next free agent class which included Dwight Howard and Deron Williams. I agree with Kerr saying that someone needs to continue the winning ways of the Mavericks as the greatest Maverick of all time Dirk Nowitzki is aging along with the vets in former All-Stars Kidd and Marion along with key players Jason Terry and Brendan Haywood. The Mavs are not in the position to make a long-term championship contention with the aging roster that they have and that is why Mark Cuban has decided to wait for a more worthy pickup in the coming offseason. To me, good move.

And as for the season, hey it's just three games. Just three. You can tell that 3-0 or 4-0 teams like the Heat or the Thunder or the Blazers are having a great start, but they would eventually fall. No one has gotten 82-0, right? Let me tell you this, if those teams lost all their remaining games and the Mavs won the last 63 games, would we all panic at all? I don't think so. The Mavs still have their core along with the deepest bench in the NBA. You may say old and weak this regular season, but when the playoffs arrive, you'll say age and experience. These Mavericks may not be as athletic as the Thunder or as high-powered and fast as the Bulls and Heat, but come playoff time, these players will come through crunch-time and will take these kids to school.

The regular season never mattered for these Mavericks. That is why in this compressed 66-game season, 15 players in that roster will play in order to give rest for the main core of guys who will play later in the playoffs fresh Look at the roster. It's made for the playoffs. It always was. Don't judge the Mavericks now. Don't ever panic against the Mavs now. This is just the regular season. And hey, it's just three games.

The Mavs never look in the season. They always have their sights in the playoffs.

So for now, don't panic.
