Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Zero Wins and Three Losses - Seriously!?

My first thought as the game ended - there is now way the refs wouldn't have heard Avery yelling "timeout" as time ran down.

My second thought isn't repeatable. The hangover is real, and it's really annoying.

There were a few good things to take away from the game:

  • Dirk had an MVP type game
  • Devin was great at both ends
  • Buckner and Croshere obviously haven't learned the defensive rotations yet, but they will.
Of course none of that matters, the Mavs lost and have started the season 0-3. I haven't seen the Mavs win a meaningful game in their last seven tries.

And oh yeah, Josh Howard is probably out a week or two.

Life sucks for Mavs fans right now.

Rating Avg -
Dirk Nowitzki 9 7.7 26/11/6 on just ten shots - great game
Jason Terry 6 5.7 Played OK - just 5/15 from the field
Josh Howard 7 7.7 Very Good game going before injury
DeSagana Diop 5 5.7 Can't play at that pace
Anthony Johnson 6 6 Had few good passes - pretty average
Jerry Stackhouse 6 6.3 Played hard but didn't shoot well tonight
Greg Buckner 6 6 Far better on on offense than defense
Devin Harris 9 7 Fantastic game - never stopped attacking - played very well defensively
Erick Dampier 6 6.3 Was OK given then pace and his few minutes
Austin Croshere 5 6.3 Quite a few defensive mistakes - shot 1/6

If every player has played above average this year (5+ rating) and your Mavs are 0-3, you are in for a rough year.

The Ratings
The only way for a player to get below 4 is to basically throw the game. A grade of 5 is really bad.

Here's kind of the standard parameters when player ratings are used in soccer.
These are the standard rules we will be using.
10: Out of this world - very rare, exceptional performances only.
9: Excellent - Top-class display, probably the matchwinner.
8: Very Good - Outstanding, very influential.
7: Good - Impressive, eye-catching.
6: Average - No major faults, nothing overly impressive.
5: Below Average - Some faults, out-of-touch.
4: Poor - Many faults, easy to criticise.

Looking back
Last night was probably a 5. He wasn't THAT bad; I think he had a better game than the box score would say. But he had a below average game for sure.

He's easily been the most disappointing player so far this season.
