All-Star Saturday Open Thread

Discuss all the nights festivities here.

My Picks:

  • Shooting Stars: I don't know who will win, but everyone watching will lose. BORING!
  • Skills Challenge: Wade wins after spraining his ankle at the end of round one and being carried off the court.
  • Barkley vs. Bavetta: If you think Barkley slept a single second last night you're crazy. I think Bavetta wins, and it won't even be close.
  • 3-Point Shootout: I've got to go with Dirk here.
  • Slam Dunk: A new rule limiting a player to two minutes means Nate Robinson doesn't stand a chance. Howard and Thomas are too tall, so the choice has to be Gerald Green. Too bad James White isn't competing.

Barkley
Wow, I figured he'd fake an injury after 20 feet.

Chuck did it!
I really thought Bavetta would win, though.  He even slid at the end and he got a cut on his knee; the blood was running during the interview at the end.

All right, let's go Dirk and Jason
I'd love for one of them to win it and I'd really hate it if Alfred (Damon Jones) or Arenas won.

Damn
Terry only hit 10.

Dirk lost
I can't believe Kapono hit that many.  I think it's true what Reggie and Kenny said; that once Dirk missed a couple, he lost focus and was just going through the motions.

plus
never bet against the heat with dick bavetta in the building. ;)

Damn it!
They're discriminating against Dwight's height.  His dunk was way better than Robinton's.  Sorry, might be the homer in me, but I think he got robbed.

Agreed
That sticker thing that Dwight Howard did was brilliant!

Sorry, but...
i need to vent.  This dunk contest pissed me off.  The league won't let Dwight raise the rim so that his height won't be such an issue, yet they penalize him for dunking on a regulation rim.  It's out of his control; what was he supposed to do?  It's unfair that his creative dunk got a lower score than dunks from Robinson and Green that are rehashed.

Then Green goes and gets a perfect score after dunking over a table, a freaking table that's shorter than Nate Robinson.

Legends and All Stars be damned...screw those judges.

Let Duane and Kapano Have The Individual Awards...
...as long as the Mavs win the ultimate team award, the NBA Championship.

It's a shame that the NBA has to bribe it's players with prize money to compete.  Most of these guys are millionaires, and I wish the winning player gets to donate the prize money to the charity of his choice (maybe they do anyway privately...or they gamble it away in Sin City).

What Bavetta and Barkley did -- donating to the Boys & Girls Club courtesy of the NBA and TNT -- was classy.

I agree
Though I like to think that the money the guys win is donated to charity.  Perhaps that's just naivete on my part.  However, seeing as they're in Vegas this year, the prize money could be used for gambling purposes.

Barkley saying
"two blackjack hands" kind of took away from the value of the donation...
