Jerry West is stepping down as GM of the Grizzlies after this season. West never did anything amazing during his time in Memphis, but odds are the person who replaces him won't be as good -- that's good news for the rest of the division.

-------------------

Pat Riley says Miami is the best team in the league and that it will be easy for them to 'turn it on" because they're a team of veterans.

---------------------

Things aren't looking good in Seattle. A vote for taxpayer funding of a new Sonics arena failed again, and David Stern said in his chat today "From a league perspective, we are hoping for a miracle that gets a vote accomplished. If not, things don't look very good."

In case you forgot, the team was sold to investors from Oklahoma City this summer.

----------------------

Erick Dampier is officially a game-time decision tonight. That means he'll play. Never in history of Avery Johnson has palyer been a game-time decision and not played.

bill simmons is not smart either
this is from his article today...

"He can't affect games unless he's scoring, doesn't make his teammates better and plays decent defense at best. If you're giving the MVP to someone because of his offense, he'd better be a killer offensive player. You can't say that about the 2007 Dirk Nowitzki."

Riley
Man, I hope that when I get old that I don't get that same condition that allows you to totally deny reality. I also love how he qualifies it by saying 'when we're functioning well'. Really? You know, when the Mavs shoot 85% and the whistles are going their way, and no one is injured they can beat anyone, regardless of their Hollinger ranking.

Also, i love how the first commenter in that blog thread fixes the poster leaving the Mavs out of the contender list.

On Jerry West
What will be his legacy as the Grizzlies' GM - getting them to their first playoffs ever, or failing to win a single time once they got there?
Oh, to be a machine.

On the SuperSonics
I currently go to school in Norman, Oklahoma, and at the few Hornets games I went to during their tenure here (including one Mavs game :D), I was absolutely amazed at the amount of support they got.  Now, that could have been because of the sympathetic factor or because they had just landed a great franchise player and were getting better.  However, I am fairly optimistic that the support would be there for the Sonics too if it came to them moving here, so bring it on!
Oh, to be a machine.
