Game #45 Open Diary-Thread for Mavs - Celtics

Since Wes is absent and Jake hates open game threads. (j/k buddy - I'll delete this if you put something on the front page)....

No tables allowed in Diary, so no fancy logos or formatting for you!

Here's some relevant stuff:

No KG tonight, but Ray Allen looks like he'll go. As posted earlier by zkmavs.

Know your Boston Celtics. Your Celtics, not mine.

Green Bandwagon. The Celtics version of MavsMoneyball.

Dallas is a 2.5 point favorite Wes is in Vegas, probably should have consulted him on this one.....

Love Barea...
but I would be much more comfortable having the Devin/Jet duo playing tonight.

No question.
But it's not a bad idea to give him some minutes. Gotta see where he's at.....

Nice job making passes out of the double-teams.
JJB with no FG, but 3 assists and steal with no TO in 9 minutes. Could be worse.

Is this d-whistle commercial for real right now??
Pookie had better call the refs for help if he ever wants to get in chucks 5

I really hope j5
goes off tonight for 40[ts 10+ boards, and 5+ assists... its an insult to not even really get any consideration from the majority of the media/nba for the all star team... and having a night like that tonight in front of national tv would really stick it to them.  Granted theres no one on the reserves that were named tonight that I can say isnt deserving of being on there... even though I was a little surprised at both ROY and West, but again, they both are having great years.

The only thing that really bothers me is that ai and melo are starting.  Had they had to compete with the rest of the reserves, I think maybe   only one of them make it, but not both.

remember last playoffs
when the other team dictated what line up we were going to use...

Maybe 4 months from now we will find out again that dampier has another injury we didnt know about and thats why avery left whos been our 12th man on our bench all year in the game for the entire 4th quarter... simply amazing how we let other teams dictate the way we play.

I do.
And this certainly felt the same way. I never approve of only playing Damp 14 minutes. Did I miss him getting hurt?

bench
The bench we have hurts us more than helps us... avery recruits all the has beens in the off season and then rides them to death on the bench until the most awkward moments of games...  This is getting so old.

I almost wish we would stick with 8 to 9 guys and let them get comfortable in playing with each other night in night out... its not like this bench is helping with our big guys minutes anyway... all it does is diminish our main role players flow (ie bass, stack diop) with the main guys...

Damp does so much for us... how he did not even play in that 4th quarter just amazes me.

Rondo had 6 offensive rebounds 6 Def boards...
Why?  How does a 6'1", 171 lb point guard who averages .9 orb and 2.8 drb do that to us?  How does terry or whoever else was guarding him not have 100 fast break points for making him pay for going after all those boards by breaking for the basket after a a boston shot attempt?

Why do we (as fans) care and pay attention more to the obvious at times more so than the coaching staff does?

All important questions here.

Answers seem to be pretty simple given the way we play and the line ups we run 99.9% of the time work, and in what seems to be some of the biggest games we play in, we think that it'll be fun to change it up to things that make absolutely no sense.

Am I missing something here?  I mean I have watched 95% of the games this year, has the line up we had in the 4th quarter of this game been efficient against another team at any other time this year?  How many games have we won when diop and damp have combined for about 15 min... can anyone dig up this stat?

lineup changes
I have been thinking about this for awhile.  All of the mis-matches and weird lineup adjustments that Avery makes are to try and cover up for how much JET sucks. JET couldn't do anything on offense after he got the ball past half court.  He let Rondo and an occasional double team keep him at the jump circle. On defense, he couldn't keep any player in front of him.  The traditional lineup isn't quick enough to cover for all of Terry's mistakes.  So Avery has to go to a small lineup that might be able to help him with the initial penetration of his man.  On offense, the quicker lineup was there to help bring the ball up faster and bail Terry out when he would either pick up his dribble or trap himself at half court.

Yeah
we definitely missed Harris and Stack both in this game at the end... I think they open it up for JET to shoot 3's, which really with the way everyone else has been playing this season, I'd be ok with that if he was open.  But when he has to worry about handling the ball, passing, and shooting, he definitely is not good.

Didnt stack hit a game winner last year in boston like the clipper game this year?  It was a turn around baseline shot wasnt it?
