Just starting the game...
At least I the mavs announcers are on league pass tonight and not the Sixer's...

by Toddy on Feb 11, 2008 6:55 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Dalembert...
Anybody know what his status is on this team?  I mean I vaguely remember hearing that Phi might be shopping him... I wonder if diop (who has an expiring contract) george and co. would be something to look at?

Just a thought... obviously the Miller trade rumors will come up in tomorrow's papers with us supposedly needing a PG (which I disagree with), but what about SD?  He is only 26, averages 11 pts, 10 reb, and 2.5 blocks...

by Toddy on Feb 11, 2008 7:12 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

SD's contract... ouch
just saw that he is being paid 10 mil this year and has 4 years left... if we did somehow get him, that'd be 20 mil at that position with damp... which is the same as shaqs deal...

Is a combo of SD and ED the same as shaq?  hmmm...

What would we have to give up for him?  Diop's contract is 2 mil, george has a 2 mil, stack (who I actually am opposed to getting rid of) has a 6 mil deal, but I'd like too see cuban maybe get creative with this instead of losing stack, unless phi was willing to buy him out, and we could resign him with our 5-6 mil deal that we still have...

by Toddy on Feb 11, 2008 7:21 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Meh.
He's got 30 mil left on 3 years of his contract and the scouting reports give him the dreaded 'low basketball IQ' kiss-of-death.

You'd have to trade 10 Diops and 5 Georges to make it even value.

True...
I still say the 2/3 spot is what we need to improve on... but I havent really followed SD enough to know what kind of player he is, except that he is a 10 and 10 guy and wasnt sure if he would help this team out or not...

But then again, Damp was a 12 and 12 guy when he got here... now look at him.  HA!

I actually like damp, bc I think we really do play better when he is out there, he doesnt cause problems off the court, and most importantly the team respects the grunt work that he does night in night out.  At least much more so than they did a few years ago.

by Toddy on Feb 11, 2008 7:40 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Damp doesn't always get his due.
He doesn't have great hands, and he's not a highlight reel like everyone wants a big to be, but he's a force down low when he's healthy. Our rebounding suffers when he doesn't play, especially on the offensive end. He  blocks out well and screens well. The problem is that he can't stay off the trainer's table. I just don't think there's another big 5 out there not named Shaq or Yao that fits this team better at the 5.

by DitchThePlaybook on Feb 11, 2008 7:58 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Dwight Howard...
Camby and chandler both would be better, even though you'd most likely give up a lot of grunt work damp does with his larger body (most importantly screens)...

by Toddy on Feb 11, 2008 8:22 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

That's why I say 'fit'.
but you're right, i would take the man-child over Damp.

I guess I wasn't really thinking eastern conference for some reason....

How do we feel about George starting tonight??
Good to know Avery isnt "stuck" on Eddie Jones, I really cant stand that guy.  I think George is an upgrade over him, but its still not the answer I think this team needs...

by Toddy on Feb 11, 2008 7:46 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

we just
need devin back... this team seriously misses that guy... once hes back just start devean or eddie... whoever matches up better with opponent... just gotta get this team healthy...

by zkmavz on Feb 11, 2008 7:56 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

my goodness
we are awful and seriously... youre telling me when reggie evans knocked the shit out of Jho and jho fell to the ground violently and had to go to the locker room hurt he wasnt fouled? an then an over the back call on dirk? and no call ont he bass take to the hole... freakin weak

by zkmavz on Feb 11, 2008 7:54 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

so right now
no jho, devin, stack or damp... this could get ugly

by zkmavz on Feb 11, 2008 7:55 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

and the 76ers...
playing dirk about as well as GS did last year... as did the Nets last night...

I thought we had figured this small defender, send the double team when dirk takes his all too predictive spin move thing out?? I guess not.  I guess this goes to show, we havent come too far from last years playoffs in terms of teams being able to to figure out this iso offense...  I know, I know, we dont have everyone, but what if we dont have everyone in the playoffs?

I guess we can use that excuse that we didnt have everyone mentality next year and continue with hope of things that "could've been"

by Toddy on Feb 11, 2008 8:00 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

the mavs
must think we have an extra player out of bounds.. cuz they keep passing it there

by zkmavz on Feb 11, 2008 7:58 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Maybe this is a blessing in disquise guys?
Maybe the losses on the road sends a message to the front office that it could be time to shake things up... thats a stretch, but its the only positive thing I can think about us being down 9 right now to the 76ers, after getting POUNDED last night by the east...

by Toddy on Feb 11, 2008 8:07 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I'm not sure...
....that a loss on the road on the second night of a back-to-back without 3 of your starters is a message to shake things up.

Something has to be done...
This team sucks offensively.

by N41D on Feb 11, 2008 8:16 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

what do you mean??
13 points in the 3rd and 10 points in the 4th wont cut it in the NBA against an eastern conference team who is barely in the playoffs?

by Toddy on Feb 11, 2008 8:19 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Something needs to be done....
But since there's no magic healing wand to get your starters healthy, there's no prudent personnel move that solves the "problem".

Or, you could just bust the team up now for draft picks since your team only has the 5th best record in the league right now.

I suggest remaining calm. 31 more games until the season starts.

This team needs a shake up...
I don't care if Devin Harris and Dampier are out, these last two loses are TERRIBLE, regardless of circumstance. Dirk, JET, and Josh ought to be more than enough to those games. But we get mopped up by BOTH? Reason: Dirk played like a cream puff both games, Josh has fallen in love with the jumper, and JET cannot handle the PG responsibilities of running an offense.

They've been flat, unmotivated, and seriously lacked any type of intensity far too often this year. Get someone in here to shake this up and freshen up that locker room.

by N41D on Feb 11, 2008 9:24 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Thats a good point...
but lets hope that IF, and I mean IF they do something, they don't over react and pull a kidd-type deal... I think something small could be done, kinda like utah did with krover, that would accomplish the locker room being freshened up...

But just because we bring someone small in though, that doesnt mean he will automatically get into avery's rotation... thats seems to be pretty hard to do these days for the guys outside the starting 5, unless these injuries continue piling up...

Small move...
Makes the most sense.

It kind of chaps my ass that Cuban is all the sudden uber-concerned about the payroll and how much he's spending on the luxary tax. This dude wanted to throw his money around like CRAZY when this team was multiple pieces away from a championship contender. Now, we're probably one legitimate piece away from a Larry O'Brien trophy, he wants to sit on KVH's contract (the only real asset we have outside of the Big 3) and hope someone gives us something valuable for the bunch of crap we have on the roster outside of Dirk/Josh/Devin ... Nobody wants the Terry or Dampier BS contracts. Diop is nothing more than a throw-in. Stackhouse's contract is at least manageable, but he's not overly attractive considering how he's played this year. Bass has some value, I'd assume, but again, I think he's another guy they're real questionable on moving, because they see him as an Amare-stopper. But, you've got to give up something to get something.

If they think this team is built to win a championship without any roster moves, I think they're sorely mistaken, and I think that's an overwhelming majority opinion...

Does anyone else feel like the Cuban of 2003 would have made some serious shake ups on this roster by now? Cuban of old would have dove head-first into the Kidd, Pau, Shaq, etc rumors and done everything within reason to get them in Dallas, money wasn't an issue. He didn't always make the best moves from a personnel standpoint, but you knew he was out there trying, willing to shake things up. Keeping the team together and intact after the 2005 Finals trip seemed like a great idea. And it was, for 82 games. After the playoff collapse last year, and the inconsistent, unmotivated, seemingly bored performances in the first half of this year, this team needs to do something.

embarrassing
that was god awful... i dont care if we were missing 4 players.. that was embarrassing...

Ok...
The spurs went through this earlier this year, when they got pounded by NO in their gym, lost at Utah, and then bounced back at phx... without TP mind you....

So maybe we all need to calm the HELL down (myself included, because I know I'm all over the map about this team right now), and wait and see if we show up in the big games (like phx, SA, Lakers, NO, etc) and go from there.  I'd rather lose to the 76ers and Nets all day, as long as we beat the big boys in the big games, because those are the mental edges we need in the playoffs.

Plus GS is in the 8 spot and I dont see them moving up above the 7th, so I dont really mind flying under the radar and missing those guys in the first round....  Let Phx (who I believe has lost to them twice already this year, and they play again on wed) LA, or NO deal with them in the first round...

I find myself running through these same scenarios
in my head.....which it's waaaaay to early for, but I can't help it either.

It ain't no cupcake in the West this year. There will be a couple of good teams that don't make the playoffs this year.
