Pounding the Rock
The game-thread banter is always amusing over there.
And I suppose they're looking quite forward to this one. The game thread's been up for two days already. Everyone's looking for Kidd to get his lunch handed to him by Mr. Longoria.

Here's the thing
Our current mavs team is SOOOOO different when he's out there versus when he's on the bench. That makes it very hard to get any kind of rhythm going when he's not out there. So how do you deal with that? Make a 34 y/o PG play 40+ mins a game? Or struggle through when he's not there?
Cassell?
I wasn't sold
However, it seems like a done deal that he's going to the Celts.
how the mavs let him go
I don't think
got home late from work... just caught up
pick and roll w/ kidd and bass..

+1
Manu...
and his bald spot
BAHAHAHA!!!
Am I a traitor for liking Manu?
HATE HIM
There cant be anymore looking up at this team any more, we were in their heads, and since this trade they think they have us again. We (as fans and as a team) should revert back to the AJ thinking of this team anymore
Not at all.

Of course, here's the problem
In fact, I think that's what just happened...
Maybe...
not worth it
I f'ing want to kill Many even more after that...
Not a bad first half...
Im glad we didnt play magloire tonight, so we can develop him into our system and the sterns cant look at him and laugh in his first game with us. He can hopefully he can get some sort of consistent minutes with this team, and be used to spell damp when he goes out, bc dirk at the 5 aint gonna cut it.
Rebounding, shooting %'s, BENCH, all look good...
Reason why this game is tied... 8 TURNOVERS for dallas vs 2 for SA.
I really hope this team gets these down... if this continues, it will cost us BIG later on... but I will be patient for those to come down.
Duncan is owning us... I have watch some stern games the past few weeks, and havent really see him play with this much energy and intensity in awhile... And thats good for us, I want him when he's at his best, not when he is so-so...
SA
Duncam : 20 pts
Fagu: 15
Longoria's French pastry: 6 (wonder if he wants to rethink that statement about us after not showing up in the first half)
Finely: 3
Bowen: 3
So shut down the 3 man crew, and basically shut down the sterns...
With a win
It would really propel us emotionally into these next stretch of tough games
Watching Dirk on Duncan
Remember when the NBA
Oh wait, the last time they did, he bitched about it so much Joey Crawford threw him out of the game in dallas, and got crawford fired from the nba...
Gotta love them sterns
Dirk finally hits a 3...
and dirk hits all 3
classic fagu acting on that possession
Even when devin did it, and even when Dirk does it, I dont like it.
The refs are the ones giving him the calls.

C'mon Mavs
finely
And of course now aj gets a T... only too add to good run right now for them...
Finley killing us.

i wish i was smart enough
but im not
haha...
Actually, I did my phone when I was at game 6 in the finals... It left a mark on the side of the AAC that is still there
3rd quarters...
Keeping our composure was not a point of emphasis obviously. The T by Terry (even though Bowen deserved a mouthing from him) cant be something that we let happen to have the momentum to the STERNS favor...
On a positive note, we are still in this game. We still are getting used Kidd, and for having 11 TO's as a team, you have to like the way we are playing. This is not like the NO game, where it was a circus of chickens that showed up in mavs uniforms. No matter what the outcome of this game, as long as we continue playing the way we have, I like the way we have played so far.
howards foul?
BASS!!

screw him too
Agreed...

Damp or Bass now?
I say we ride it out... this is a good experiment...
But AJ goes with damp
If the scoring doesn't come..

4 FT's missed dirk? WTF? Thats what this game is gonna come down too if we lose... I called it

new game plan... on offense we go to the guy who's NOT being covered by bowen
I'd like to go with Bass now..

im just angry and bitter
WHEN IS THE NBA GOING TO REALIZE THAT BRUCE BOWEN IS A DIRTY PIECE OF SHIT?!?!
Damn...
makes the games w/ LA and UTAH
by bradybob on Feb 28, 2008 9:49 PM CST up reply actions
why?
As long as he is directed to NOT SHOOT THE BALL, unless its a lay up, why? Otherwise why is he here? Would Devin had been in the last few min of that game?
Wait
Keyword there
I have been a supporter of Avery, questioned him at times, but have supported him... After tonight, I can no longer say that I will until he proves me wrong.
Up until Kidd being out at the end, I was ok with what he had done in this game... Maybe pulling bass out in the 4th and the T in the third were some things that some might have criticized him on if we still had lost... but pulling kidd??
This has proved everyone right who said that Kidd and Avery were going to clash, and that Avery wasnt gonna let his team be run by kidd. Total ego move IMO. I see why he put in Stack, he hits big shots for us... but then pull out howard, or terry, or someone ELSE who wasnt shooting -40% from the floor for the game.
Cuban looked to be staring down avery at the end, when finely was shooting his FT's... hmmmm... looks like we may have the owner swinging with us now too...
and if you have tivo
What

Mavs fans..
i am so mad right now
this is a league where unhappy players can cry their way out of a signed contract and go sign with a contender... its the dumbest shit ever... (i know the mavs were involved in all of these dumb things about the nba... but it just goes to show you what a joke this league is)
i mean this is a professional sports league.. alot of money and emotions ride on this stuff and i swear its run like a fucking YMCA league...
this is a league where games that are close basically come down to a referees subjectivity down the stretch... the refs have more control over outcomes in basketball than any sport ever... watching basketball makes me so damn angry, because the refs screw up all the time... the subjectivity of the nba drives me insane
there is so much wrong with this league... yet i still watch every mavs game... and let myself get worked up... i let this team control my emotional stability and far too often i end up pissed and angry and confused and sad....
i hate the nba... but i love the mavs... and i just pray that we can win the nba title this year so i can stop stressing out and shortening my life... too bad the nba wont let that happen...
Take solice in this...
All the pundits saying the Kidd trade might not work are idiots. Granted, we need to play him at the end of the game (sigh), but I love how this team is clicking. Not sure what Magloire can bring but he could help in games like this. Bass surprised me tonight. Didn't expect such a solid game against the Spurs.
I get pissed at refs, Manu, Bowen, Finley, etc. too. But, I saw a lot that I liked about tonight. I saw one thing I hated...Kidd on the eff'n bench at end of game. Here I go...getting mad now. :)
Jeez
Absolute lunacy in each case.
LUNACY I TELL YOU!!!
Avery SUCKS...
When Jason Kidd was brought in, Avery was all excited, talking about "Jason is a guy that will get us touchdowns in the redzone. He'll be a real leader for this team down the stretch of games."
WHERE THE HELL WAS HE, AVERY? Are you freaking kidding me? We continue to try and run ISOs for Dirk at the top of the key, and it RARELY works. Get Jason Kidd in the damn game, run Dirk off screens, and let them do what they do...
Once again, Avery Johnson out-thinks himself at the end of a big game... Pathetic... His job has got to be on the line come playoff time this year.
couldnt agree more...
Cuban HAS too talk to him about his damn ego... seriously
after some time to calm down
it was close and could have gone either way, ref calls can always go either way, and Dallas certainly got more free throws tonight, but....
if i ever see dan crawford in the street i will stick my foot sideways up his ass.
ok... glad i got that out... the ball did appear to go off duncan, not damp; not sure why duncan got that foul call at the end, but still, the game shouldn't come down to one call here or there, it'll drive you nuts. the most important thing i got out of this was........
avery may possibly be insane.
their is no justification good enough for leaving kidd out the last seconds of the game.
absolutely unbelievable.
this team better perform well in the playoffs or the little general may be out on his butt; don't think cuban didn't make a note in his head about the coach's decision to bench kidd in this game.

A few thoughts
- Why was Kidd not on the floor in the final minute? It just struck me as bizarre.
- Kidd is REALLY active on defense. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that trading Devin for Kidd is a significant defensive upgrade. However, Diop's loss was very apparent on defense. Meaning...
- Our interior defense is highly suspect without a center on the floor. Magloire's signing may turn out to be incredibly important if he can be at least decent with post defense.
- Related to the above: Duncan is still a beast. He had trouble with Bass, but he more than made up for it on the offensive end. Again, Magloire would have been really helpful.
- I'm still waiting for a game when all the starters are "on" offensively. That will be a scary game to watch for the opposition.
- I kind of like our offense with and without Kidd. Our iso offense is still surprisingly effective, and that will be even more so as a change-up from Kidd. ISO: Too static as a core system, good as a change-up.
- I'm rather glad the trade ended up with Hassell gone and Devean George here.
- This wasn't our best game defensively, but it was primarily due to Duncan. We handled Parker, Manu, and the rest of the team pretty well. They had some open shots, but our rotations were generally good.
- My general impression is that we are still going through growing pains but that we definitely have a contender here. We have a gaping hole behind Dampier, which hopefully Magloire will fill nicely. But we'll find out about that later.
it doesn't really matter

Bass did a fine job
by bradybob on Feb 28, 2008 11:31 PM CST up reply actions
Agreed
Totally irrelevant though, in that situation I think we all would've most likely gone with Damp who has had success (at times) defending duncan, same goes for the arguments about the refs... this is not what (should) be really eating at us right now...
Its the fact that our Saviour Kidd, who Avery and Co has supposedly brought in to "save" this team WASNT IN THE DAMN GAME in the biggest moments. I dont care if we had been running iso plays all damn game, if he isnt gonna play in the big time moments of the game, WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING HERE?
You think Devin would have been in that last play, to try and get to the basket? I dont know. Can someone look back at some close game that devin has played and and see if avery went with him or not?
Again, I think whats frustrating to "most" of us here, is ONCE AGAIN... Its not THAT we lost... Its HOW we lost...
It was a great game, until AJ "Avery-ed" it again in the MOST crucial time of the game... Just frustrating...
I can't believe...
by Key on Feb 29, 2008 2:00 AM CST reply actions
i dont think
i did complain when duncan traveled then put the ball in damps chest, and since he made the play look so awkward the weak minded refs called a foul, which wasnt there, to give the spurrrs 2 free throws to take the lead... just because a guy looks awkward on a shot doesnt mean it is a foul...
and the other time i complained was when terry was blocked/bodied by bowen, and the ball went out of bounds off tim duncan (rewind your tivos and look)... and they immediately gave the ball to the spurs... that was obviously mavs ball with 1.6 secs left... yah we would have screwed it up and still lost... but it would have been nice to have one more chance
and in the end... spurs fans cheer for bruce bowen and manu ginobili... if you dont see something wrong with cheering for the dirtiest player in the league and that fairy.. .then i feel sorry for you... enjoy your tacos
If you were to review the game's dialogue above
Concerning Bowen and Ginobili: Bruce is a tough, hard-nosed defender and most NBA players don't like it when their opponents actually makes them work hard to score. Manu is having an incredible season - he's fourth in the league in PER and his per-40-min numbers are just about the same as Kobe Bryant. He should be in the MVP talk, but just like his All-Star snub, he'll basically be ignored. But if y'all had these two guys on the Mavs, you would love them as well.
P.S. You don't like tacos?
