Alrighty fellas
here we go... stack and dirty out, the whole world (including those within this fan base) are against us... Nellie vs Cuban, Boom-dizzle vs Kidd, Howard's hot, Bass and Damp-- will they see much PT?, SJax and his D, Monte and his speed... Warriors coming off a beating last night vs. Spurs... will be interesting to see what Mavs team, coach and crowd shows up here in an hour.

Welcome back Nellie...

Dallas 112
Warriors 104

why cant we
always play like this??

Its early I know... and we ALWAYS seem to build these leads and let them go... but damn it seems good to see this team play with passion again.

I was thinking the same thing...
But didnt we do this against the Nugs and Warriors the past few games???

I'm gonna relax until the 2nd half...

But it is awesome that Baron just got his 2nd foul!!

Offensive rebounding..
Gotta stop letting GS be good at it.. seems like Harrington loves playing the Mavs.

Just knew Nellie was going to send the double at B.Bass the way hes played them this year.

For as much hustle as I see on D
GS is still getting some REALLY good looks...  Luckily they are missing, but you cant always count on that... especially with this team

Anti-Mavs Bias fr. Ex-Mav ESPN Analysts
I've never heard a good thing said about the Mavs from either Tim Legler or Jamal Mashburn.  I just think they're bitter because they played during that rough mid-1990s period.

Just now Mashburn and Stephen A. Smith think the Mavs won't make it to the playoffs.  This almost certainly guarantees they will make it.

That's why I normally stick to KTXA 21 as well.

I've been just as disheartened...
as everyone else this year, but this is really fun to watch.  I haven't seen them this pumped up in a long time.  Thanks for not calling in sick, Mavs..

Kobe needs a technical foul tonight
if he gets one... he is suspended for the game vs the mavs... please joey crawford be reffing their game tonight!

by zkmavz on Apr 2, 2008 10:21 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

NO...
I want Kobe there on Friday...I want to destroy the Lakers with Kobe and then stomp on the Suns...

by smt83 on Apr 2, 2008 10:24 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Let's not get too crazy...
If Kobe HAS to be gone, I guess we'll take it.  Might give Dirk some more time on the bench.  The more time J5 is the lead scorer his confidence grows more and more.

by bradybob on Apr 2, 2008 10:26 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

no technicals for kobe tonight
guess we will just have to beat them with kobe... oh well

I'll admit
Great game Dallas. You kicked our asses. It's my fault and only my fault. I said that we would win and I jinxed it. I knew I should not have been trash talking but I did. I won't do it again. Sorry Warriors.

I must admit...
I live in the Bay Area...and I am gonna be soooooo freakin happy the Warriors won't be in the playoffs this year.  I hope your a hockey fan bro...cause thats all the bay area has to look forward to.

by smt83 on Apr 2, 2008 10:29 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Let me rephrase that...
I am happy the Warriors PROBABLY won't be in the playoffs

by smt83 on Apr 2, 2008 10:30 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

That is why...
Stephen Jackson is a classy player...he is playing like complete crap so he takes it out on JET...

What I can't believe
is that Howard threw a lob to EJ and it worked!

A Great Win to Build On
No one can ever question Dirk's toughess -this is just the latest example.  I'm glad he came back during a nationally televisd game so everyone can see what we already knew - the guy has a ton of heart.

OK, now that the losing streak is broken against winning teams let's get on a nice roll into the playoffs.  Maybe we're doing it the right way this year -- play mediocre when it doesn't count (although in the West this season every game seems to count!) and then turn it up for the final 2 weeks and into a long playoff run....

As many have already said, this is the Mavs team and style we were waiting to see.

JET was back tonight, and if he and Howard can keep up these types of performances and help Dirk and Kidd out there's reason to be excited.  Stack also gets a week's rest so things may start to be falling into place, or I'm just overreacting over the biggest win so far.

by dirk41 on Apr 2, 2008 11:27 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Kool-Aid is back
and everyone seems to be drinking from it... again.  That didn't take long.

I watched the second half in a bar, and am just starting it again so I can actually pay attention to what really was going on.

Great game from what I saw, emotions and energy were definitely high from what I saw, and could not have come at a better time.  I seriously hope this continues.  Even after the first quarter, we were only up 4 or 5, but I the energy the team was playing with was something we hadnt seen all year IMO.

But in breaking this down, how much of this win was us playing better vs GS just missing open shots?  I think in all fairness a little bit of both happened, but I will hold that thought for now until I look at the 2nd half a little closer.

by Toddy on Apr 3, 2008 12:34 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I thought our D was great
we hustled on everything and never really let the Warriors get into a rhythm, sure they started cold but that team can get hot really fast and we never let them. I think we should give the guys credit, they had incredible energy and worked for everything.

by aluzzi on Apr 3, 2008 1:28 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed
If they play like that for the rest of the year(without giving up wide open looks from 3), they can be as good as anyone. But still, it was just one game.

Oh yeah
Good job with the poll, Wes. It must have done the trick.

I needed a poll the
folks over at GSoM couldn't rig!

Very clever
you know they were very confused by it

by Toddy on Apr 3, 2008 10:21 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ric Bucner
Ok, so the source of this can be questioned here, as I am pulling this from the GSoM post game thread...  But Bucner has HISTORICALLY hated on the Mavs and I cant stand him.  What turned me on him the most was two years ago when he came on the Galloway show at the end of the season, right before we made finals run, and told Randy that Dirk did not make his top 5 or 6 in MVP candidates that year.  Dirk ended up 3 that year in MVP voting if I remember correctly.

Here's jewniorballa's report from the game last night (a GS fan mind you)

Then i asket Rick Buker "Mavs fan or Warriors fan?"
He saw my Dubs jersey and said "I can't answer that here in Dallas" and as he walked away he turned back and said, "I'm a Suns fan" lol
You heard it here first Rick Buker = Suns fan

If this is infarct true, which I really did happen... It just adds another reason why I try and get most of my info from other sources than ESPN, and why when I am at home in Dallas or anywhere else that might have a different broadcast other than the ABC/ESPN or TNT crews, I will always watch the "Joe's" over the "Blatant Idiotic Annalists composed of fans from 2-3 teams in the league."

Of the big networks who cover/report the NBA games nationally, you have doug collins (TNT) PTI guys, Tim Legeler, and Ric Bucner practically working for the Suns (note that Kerr made this list last year, but the suns went ahead and made it official this last off-season), and MOST of the rest (the exception being Steven A who only swings on teams from the NY area) barry, marc jackson, Barkley, Skip bayless, Miller, Jalen Rose, Hollinger, Patrick, etc. are all paid by the NBA to support the Sterns.  Then you have the leftover bandwagon guys jumping on either the Lakers or Celtics fan base.

Obviously I'm kidding about getting paid by those respective teams and the NBA, but some of these guys are just blatantly single minded when they announce games or write articles.  It's like some of them are beat writers or something for those teams.

Granted the same could be same about Stein and us, but I'd beg to differ that he probably covers us and the Suns about the same... I'd say about 80% of his reporting is about one of these two teams.

I really wish the NBA League pass deal would move to all HD games, provide feeds for all the local teams, and provide someone who purchases their package a "preference" in what feed they get, I'm just so damn sick of hearing Steven A open his damn mouth and bag this team because (and I know I might be out of bounds on this, but it is just so blatantly obvious that he MOSTLY swings on teams with black superstars) a White superstar on it and a team that he knows nothing about except the Box scores he reads in the mornings following this their games... tell me how in the hell with GS being now 2 (technically 3 with the tie breaker) games back from us we are goin to miss the playoffs?  We dont even need to go into about what idiot things Barry said last night.

by Toddy on Apr 3, 2008 10:21 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I heard that Galloway interview too!
Not only did he say Dirk wasn't in top five overall, but he said he wasn't even the MVP of the team -- Josh Howard was.

by Wes Cox on Apr 3, 2008 11:09 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Part of it
was leaving Damp in more. Going slightly bigger was the way to go on defense. And those lobs to Damp under the basket paid off with a few awesome dunks. We owned the boards.

Also, The fast break, aggressive style of offense really kept the Warriors from harassing us. We didn't settle for jump shots. Seemed like for the  first time Kidd really had the offense following his lead/tempo. There was no real way the Warriors could get organized on D in time. When we did go halfcourt, ball movement was solid.

I guess this is why we traded for J.Kidd!
The Mavs are finally starting to gel. I don't know if we have turned the corner yet, but I do think that if Dirk can stay healthy we'll have a good shot of playing at a high level by the time the playoffs start. IF we make the playoffs...
