Art Garcia writes about the Mavs great rebounding this season, pointing to Devean George as a reason why.

George's keys for rebounding are timing, judging angles, finding open spots and just having a "nose" for the ball developed from being in the league eight years.

His energy on the glass is one of the reasons the Mavs are the NBA's third-best rebounding team. They've outrebounded opponents by 4.35 boards per game -- trailing just Utah and New York heading into Sunday -- and are 29-1 when outrebounding opponents.

Sefko warns the Mavs that they can't let up during this easy stretch of games.
These Mavericks don't have to play their best to beat some of the teams on their schedule this week. But that's the sort of mentality that can cost a team.

The Mavericks have 37 games left. They are five games ahead of San Antonio in the Southwest Division and linked with Phoenix in a tight race for the best record in the NBA. That's why surviving lulls such as the ones the Mavericks are going through are critical. Get through them, and you may not have to sweat out April victories when playoff seedings are on the line.

Kevin Sherrington thinks the Mavs really need to hold off Phoenix and get the number one seed.
But no use making it any harder on yourself. Playoff seeding is important. The West has six, maybe seven teams – Dallas, Phoenix, San Antonio, Houston, Utah, the Lakers and Denver – with a legitimate shot to win it all.

Who would you want to face in the first round? Finish with the top seed, and you not only avoid one of those teams, you probably miss San Antonio in the second round.

Dwain Price has a non-mavs related article about all the young and promising centers in the league right now.
J.J. Barea

Down in the D-League: I'm not sure if this says more about Barea or the state of defense in the NBDL, but J.J. Barea had his second 40 point game in the last four days yesterday. Barea scored 41 in 33 minutes (16-23 from the field). He also grabbed six rebounds and five assists.

And oh yeah, Mensah-Bonsu led the team in rebounds again with 16 (eight offensive) to go along with 16 points.

Around the NBA: Phoenix is now at 17 and counting...

San Antonio started off an eight game road-trip with an OT win against the Lakers. Michael Finley hit a three with 1.3 left to give the Spurs the win.
