Mavericks' Preseason Opener Against the Wizards

Who: Dallas Mavericks host the Washington Wizards

What: First game of the preseason... need we say more? It's basketball time, sportsfans!

Where: American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas

When: 7:30pm CT/ 8:30pm ET

How: KTXA | Comcast SportsNet

The Story:

Somehow or another, we managed to make it through the summer of LBJ and the Free Agents (the new name of my band) and the time has come to watch some legit basketball. Tonight our Dallas Mavericks host my hometown Washington Wizards in what looks to be a May/December match-up. While the Mavericks have added some young blood to the roster, the core group of players remains one of the oldest in the league. The Wizards, however, have made it quite clear that this will be a rebuilding year for them, and they're looking to mold the future of their young superstar, John Wall.

This will be the first full season for the Mavericks with their three former Wizards. Both Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood will see ample minutes, and Carlisle is looking for DeShawn Stevenson to be an important role-player off the bench.

After the jump you'll find various takes on the teams. Be sure to join us on the game thread tonight!

Shootaround Report: Wizards-Mavs (Preseason) - Mavs Fast Break
If you listened to the players and head coaches for the Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards, you’d be surprised to hear that Tuesday night’s preseason matchup isn’t about revisiting the trade that drastically changed the rosters of the two squads last season.

The Mavericks have only a few relatively minor issues in training camp. Who starts at shooting guard and how the center minutes are divided lead the way. And then there's getting rest for Dirk Nowitzki.

WIZARDS: Wizards Begin Preseason Tonight vs. Mavericks
On October 27th, 2009, the Washington Wizards started their 2009-10 regular season in Dallas versus the Mavericks. Fast forward to today and the Wizards will begin their 2010 preseason in Dallas at 8:30pm.

Ask anybody in the Mavericks' organization what their first thought was when they heard DeShawn Stevenson was going to be part of the trade that also netted Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood, and the analysis would likely have been something like this: Free spirit, full of himself, flaky.

Bullets Forever - For Washington Wizards Fans

Last year, the Wizards had to pretend preseason mattered. This year, it actually does matter, because there are positions up for grabs involving young players who need to step in and put their mark on the team.
