What the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs had to say
after the pre- and de-hyped Game....
Not exactly a classic.
KneeJerk Recap (TM) Jonthefon v1.19
The Mavs (
beat/lost to) [the San Antonio Spurs]¹ tonight (thanks to/despite) Dirk’s awesomeness at the sidelines. The (cloud in the silver lining/major culprit) once more was the lack of support from his team-mates, with the exception ofTyson Chandler/Jason Kidd². Especially useless was Jason Terry/Caron Butler/J.J. Barea/Shawn Marion/Brendan Haywood's DNP³ and it is (GUESS WHAT) THEY’RE ALMOSTNOTALL USELESS.
¹ Inserted Opponent
² Only one of them, mind you. Chandler missed a FT, so.....
³ Two at the minimum, up to all five of them.
Quotes
Mavericks
Coach Carlisle
(On the Game) "We just couldn’t get over the hump. It was tough, it was frustrating, but our guys kept battling. I take the positives out of it, but right now, we’ve got to really work together. Without Dirk in the lineup, the margins for error are extremely slim."
(On Cropduster) "It was a tough night for Terry. But he hit a couple of threes at the end, which was big for us and kept us alive."
(On going to Terry) "I just kept telling him in the second half and fourth quarter, 'Just keep playing your game and staying aggressive because you're going to break out of this.' Just keep believing. And it's as simple as that."
(On Caron) "Butler was aggressive, and he’s a big-game player. He likes the responsibility of performing and being the lifeline. That’s one of the things I love about him. Throughout the game, he did a good job of attacking."
Jason Kidd
Referee: "I can't believe what i'm seeing."
(On the Game) "You've got to give San Antonio credit. They made shots when they had to. But the effort was there tonight, even without Dirk. We gave ourselves a chance to win. And in this league, that’s all you can ask for.
(On the Mavs) "With this effort, we'll win a lot more games than we'll lose. But we're having to play a little differently. Teams might not double-team us as much and we understand that."
(On what he asked Santa) "We had multiple opportunities in the third to take the lead. We just didn’t capitalize on the offensive end. In this locker room, we believe that we can play with anybody, no matter who puts on a uniform. So, again that showed tonight. And going into the fourth quarter down seven, that’s all you can ask for."
(On Terry) "We always believe that when we need a basket, he's going to knock one down for us. We're going to get him the ball in position to be successful."
(On his Triple-double) "They come and go. It’s a triple-double. I’d rather us win and not get a triple-double. But with Dirk out, I was just trying to help rebound and get the ball and try to help get easy baskets. But again, it’s a triple-double in a loss, so it doesn’t mean too much."
Jason 'Cropduster' Terry
(On his game tonight) "They got nothing from me. We still played hard and gave ourselves an opportunity to win the game. But we're not going to win many games if I don't do it without Dirk."
(On his scoreless 4th q until 40 seconds were left and the game decided) "I was thinking 'Be aggressive and make it happen'. Obviously it didn't, but that's one out of 10 times."
(On playing without Dirk) "You're doing something you're not used to. Without Nowitzki, it's tough. But I'm not concerned. When we get him back, we'll have him back. Until then, we'll figure it out."
Tyson Chandler
"Ball."
(On Duncan) "I played some great defense on him and he made some tough shots. Whenever he gets it going like that, you just have to pat him on his back."
(On the Bucks next) "They celebrated on our floor, so we owe them something real good."
Spurs
Coach make it Pop
(Pregame, On Dirk not playing) "That's why tonight sucks big time."
(Why does it suck?) "Because Dirk's not there. You win - fine. You lose, you feel like [poop]. It's like a win-win for Dallas. If we win, in a way, we won't give a crap. If you think about it, what exactly does this win mean? If you lose, you really feel like crap because they don't have all their guys. It's a lousy situation. I hate it."
(Postgame, On winning the Game) "Any win is a good win, and on the road, they're even sweeter. We were fortunate in a lot of ways. I don't think we were sharp, and I thought Dallas showed a lot of character. They were very aggressive, fired up and really got after it and played a damn good game and we were fortunate to get out of here with a win."
(On the importance of this Win) "We don't take too much out of the win. We didn't show very much. We didn't improve as a team, that's for sure."
(On Neal) "Gary has been important to us all year long coming off the bench, scoring, playing hard."
(On Hill) "I think George, he has some moments where he’s not as aggressive as we’d like him to be, but he’s starting to understand that’s what we want from him all the time and he’s getting better and better at that."
Tony Parker
'Der eingesprungene Aushilfskellner', perfomed by Mr. Parker.
(On Duncan) "Timmy played great. He got some big baskets for us. He was drawing double-teams. He was huge in the third quarter. Double-teams! Do you know what that means?"
Tim Duncan
(On his game) "It's nice to get some baskets to go down, get some rebounds and play a little better to help the team. We can attack in different ways. That's what we've been hanging our hat on all season."
(On Neal) "He's a stone-cold shooter. He feels he deserves to be here, and he does. He's shown he can make plays for us. Neal with it."
