NBA Lockout Ends, Tentative Agreement Reached

For the first time in... months?... I was inspired to get out of bed to write on this site because it looks like reason has taken the day and the lockout is over.

In the wee hours of the morning, players and owners reached some sort of agreement that would make room for a 66-game season starting December 25th (Xmas, for those of you who celebrate out there). That means that the Mavericks will face off against the Heat in a finals rematch after they raise their 2011 Championship banner. If that doesn't make for great TV, I don't know what does.

There will be a brief free agency period beginning December 9th, so it is then that we will learn the fates of players such as Tyson Chandler, Caron Butler and JJ Barea.

The good news is, Jason Kidd and Jason Terry, both in the final years of their contracts, will get another chance to play for the team that made them world champs for at least one more season. And the best news is- we get to see the great and mighty Dirk Nowitzki don a Dallas uniform and drop one-legged Euro leanbacks on unsuspecting opponents without that sense of desperation. Why? Because he's already won the big kahuna. Now it's all just icing on the cake.

It's a great day.
