Game Thread: Mavericks (0-0) at Lakers (0-0), GAME ONE

WHO: The Los Angeles Lakers host the Dallas Mavericks

WHAT: Round Two, Game One

WHERE: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA

WHEN: 9:30pm CT

THE STORY: The Mavericks face the Lakers in the post season for the first time since 1988. Sadly, many of you weren't even ALIVE then. Good lord, am I that old? This promises to be a series filled with high quality basketball, and hopefully none of the shenanigans we saw in their last regular-season meeting. Kobe Bryant is having ankle problems, but he's playing, and he's a freak so we can't let up on him. Dirk Nowitzki is hungry... let's feed the big German. Sorry for the lack of links last round... settling in to a new city is tough! Anyhoo, they are after the jump. I am so pleased with how well we got along with the Blazers folks. Please try your best to be cordial to the Lakers fans over at Silver Screen and Roll, ok? Same rules apply... Hamm and I will ban trolls on our site, and we will ban you guys if we find out you're doing the trolling. Ok? Ok.

Dallas Mavericks Blog: Lakers Lakers Lakers...
So what happens if, say, the Dallas Mavericks are playing superbly in tonight's Game 1 and are up, oh, 15 to 18 points with the clock ticking down to about one minute left in the third quarter? Can they clamp down defensively and secure the win? Does the offense bog down? Does the lead evaporate in a matter of minutes?

Mavericks believe they are on equal footing with Lakers
Says DeShawn Stevenson: "This is more for the team. You want to play great and get some accomplishments. But I see the faces of Dirk and Jason Terry and J-Kidd. They want to win now. So I'm going to go all out.''

Kobe Bryant will play: ‘I just don't know how sharp he can be’
Phil Jackson said Kobe Bryant did "some training" at practice Sunday but didn't do "anything on the court" on his sprained left ankle. Bryant will play.

Shawn Marion's mishap with Portland door results in 3 stitches
Shawn Marion is sporting three stitches over his right eye, an injury from the Portland series - or rather, after the Game 6 finale, when he accidentally butted head with a glass door while leaving the team hotel.
