THE STORY: The Mavericks need a good game tonight. Not just because they're fighting to stay above .500. Not just because they have to fight to stay relevant until Dirk Nowitzki comes back. But because they need to stay afloat, period. Dirk can only do so much when he returns, and it's going to take him quite a while to get back into überman shape. The brain is a powerful muscle and it needs to repeat things in order to make them habit. Winning needs to become the Mavericks' habit, but if they keep suffering defeat that's going to be a hard mental block to overcome. Just ask the Wizards.
