I woke up 30 minutes ago just to see that the Magic's star center Dwight Howard had yet again changed his mind about waiving off that early termination option in his contract, which would keep him in Orlando throughout the 2012-2013 season. Maverick fans all over the world are tracking the event closely because "The Indecision" has a major impact on the dream to unite Deron Williams and Dwight Howard in Dallas. Without a written consent that Howard won't opt out next year, the Magic will likely deal him until todays trade deadline (see the countdown on the right) and the most viable partner would be the New Jersey Nets, Deron Williams's current team.
So here's what Dallas, Nets and Magic fans had to go through yesterday:
-
2:22 PM: @cbruey reports that Dwight Howard has told teammates he is going to opt in for his final year of the contract
-
2:59 PM: @KBergCBS adds, that the Magic would need written documentary (signed by Howard and his agent) to decide against trading him.
-
3:22 PM: More details begin to surface. Apparently Howard called a meeting in San Antonio, but teammates deny rumors that the center told them he will opt-in. Conflicting reports insist that he has informed team officials and friends to do so.
-
6:47 PM: The Magic are still pursuing trades for Dwight Howard as there is no word whether he'll sign the papers to void his early termination option.
-
7:14 PM: ESPNSteinLine reports, that Dwight Howard informed the Magic in a conference call before the game against the Spurs, that he will NOT sign the ETO waiver.
-
8:02 PM: It's pretty obvious by now that the Magic will try to move Dwight Howard.
-
8:53 PM: Evan Dunlap posts his Dwight Howard flowchart.
-
10:59 PM: Talks with the Nets have picked up and they are in the lead to land Dwight. Other executives state "there is not enough time" to get a package together.
-
1:53 AM: RealGM starts tweeting about a statement of Dwight Howard. He "can't leave Orlando behind", apologizes for the circus and plans to opt-in.
So that's it? We shall see... no papers have been signed yet.
