Do you love animals? (There is only one right answer to that question.)

Hi everyone!

Remember me?

No, probably not. It's been, what, a few months? Anyway I used to run this joint, so listen up.

In these last few months, I've taken the best job ever and I work for an amazing organization that is in need of your help. The Houston SPCA, where I am the Animal Behavior Coordinator, is a wonderful non-profit animal shelter in the city of Houston. We are a high-volume, open admission shelter that adopts out around 1,000 animals a month. But as with any such organization, we can't do anything we do without generous donations from the animal-loving public.

To help put things in perspective, each dog and cat (or small animal or farm animal) that gets adopted out of the shelter receives an exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, a microchip, is spayed or neutered and tested for heartworm. The adopter receives a complementary exam at a VCA hospital as well as a bag of food from Hill's Science Diet. Each one of these packages is worth well over $400, and the most any animal costs to adopt is $195. As you can see, there's quite a disparity there.

Which brings me to the point of my post. Every year, the Houston SPCA does a fundraiser called iWalk for Animals. It's a virtual "walk where you are" event to raise money to help care for the animals in our shelter. Rather than organize a physical event (which costs a lot of money) we do this virtual fundraiser so that most of what we raise goes straight to the animals and not to overhead event costs.

If you feel so compelled (and why shouldn't you, really?), click on this link to my donation page and help support my efforts to raise money for the SPCA.

That's me in the picture, working with a sweet dalmatian who was surrendered to us and subsequently adopted out to a loving home. SAVE THE ANIMALS, y'all!
