Mavs to Sign D-League Guard Chris Wright

According to reports Sunday night from ESPN's Marc Stein, the Mavericks are likely to sign point guard Chris Wright to a 10-day contract, filling the open roster spot created by waiving Dominique Jones:

The 6-foot-1, 210 pounder averaged 15.5 points, 7.0 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 37.0 minutes per game for Iowa, earning a spot in last month's D-League All-Star game in Houston.

It's also very interesting to note that Wright will be making NBA history, becoming the first player to play with multiple sclerosis:

In March 2012, Wright was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, but he has continued to play in the wake of the M.S. findings and was widely considered overdue for an NBA callup based on his development at the point.

Now I don't know much, if anything about MS. Yahoo's Dan Devine provides some back ground about how Wright discovered he had the disease in rather terrifying fashion.

I'd be interested if one of our commenters can illuminate us more, first one what the diseases is and does, and second, how it might limit Wright, if at all.

In basketball terms, I doubt Wright sees a minute of game action unless Dallas is mathematically eliminated from the playoff hunt. Heck, Carlisle didn't even play his bench guys despite a 20 point lead with 6 minutes left against the Wolves.

Cutting Jones and signing Wright is an instance of hoping for the best, but planning for the worst. I don't know much about Wright, but many seem to think his call up is well past it's due date. Perhaps he can find a way to get floor time and show his worth.
