Mavs sign Devin Harris to 1-year, vet-min deal

USA TODAY Sports

The deal that was rumored ever since the old deal fella part has finally come down. Devin, who had signed a three-year, nine-million dollar deal, is now a one-year, one-million dollar player, more or less. While the first deal was widely regarded as a steal, and this one even more of a steal, having a player of Devin's caliber under contract for a couple extra years, at that little, certainly had its appeal.

Harris played in 58 regular season games and 6 playoff games for the Hawks last year, gradually transitioning from the 1 to the 2 as Jeff Teague came on. He averaged 10 points and 3.4 assists in the regular season, a little less in the playoffs. He shot 44% from the field and 34% from three.

Harris is capable, though not spectacular, when running the offense, boasts career averages of 13 and 5 and is only 30 years old, believe it or not. He's excellent at getting to the rim and drawing fouls, something the Mavs have been missing for years. He's apparently a good defender when he tries, so we'll see how that goes.

More on this, etc.
