QUOTEBOARD: Mavericks lose a heartbreaker to the Warriors in overtime

As the epic homestand ends, the Mavs couldn't quite make one more play to close out one of the (other) best shooting teams in the West.

On Steph's last shot...

It was a great play. We had a chance to double team him and it would have been good to get it out of his hands. Jose was in good position, he just made a great shot.

On making plays to end the game...

We were up four two or three times at the end of the prescribed time of either regulation or overtime, and it happened multiple times during this stretch at home. We've made poor decisions, we haven't done what we needed to do to get stops, and so we're paying a price.

We had leads. We had an 11 point lead at one time. You just gotta keep making the right plays to put yourself in a position to finish which we did. Then you've gotta make plays to finish. Which we didn't.

On the 4-4 homestand...

It's disappointing. But we have to get ready for the next game now. I'm not big on analyzing how disappointing it is. I know how disappointing it is. We didn't deserve to win tonight. You have to make the right plays at the right time and we did not do that.

It's on all of us. Certainly it's on the coaches, as well as the players and everyone else -- we all own it. But you can't make those mistakes.

On the coming roadtrip...

We've got seven left, and it's very unpredictable. We've got to keep our wits about us and keep playing.

On matchups and the reason Dalembert didn't play much...

Yeah, [the matchups were the reason]. We tried to get a bit of a run early in the second half, it just didn't work out then either.

On losing a tough game before upcoming roadtrip...

I don't want to talk too much about the game. It's gone. We have to take a look at what is ahead of us and be ready for these upcoming games.

Vince Carter

On the game as a whole...

I thought we played well enough to win, just didn't work out our way in the end.

On how they'll approach the coming roadtrip...

Just win. It's do or die in my opinion, each game. I think we're capable of being in the playoffs, we want to be in the playoffs, and that's why these losses hurt...[t]hese are seven tough games, but we'll take them one at a time.

On the 4-4 homestand and disappointing losses...

Better than being blown out, in my opinion. It means we're engaged in the game and giving ourselves a chance to win. That's what we want to do each and every night, stay engaged and not get comfortable being at home. We want to give ourselves a chance to win in the end. We've had some pretty good wins and some tough ones that hurt a bit. Now we get on the road, and like I said, one at a time.

On the game as a whole...

It was a fun game to be a part of, obviously two teams going at it for playoff positioning. I don't even know what to say. It was a weird ending. But we let so many chances get away. We were up numerous times, up four, and all we needed was one more stop, one more rebound, but gave up a couple of threes....we had some communication errors...and they make you pay.

On the last sequence...

I actually don't know what happened. I think his layup has a chance to get to the rim, and if that's the case, he can't just get it out of the air. To me, that's a goaltend. And I asked the referees what happened, the explanation was that the ball was 2 feet short...but from where I was, it at least had a chance to hit the rim.

We're shocked about the no call, and we're running back, and gotta give Steph credit, he made a heck of a shot. Thought Jose was all over him, I actually looked again and it was good defense, Steph didn't even have his feet set, just threw it up, and he has great touch. Heartbreaker.

On the 4-4 homestand...

If you would have told me we were going 4-4 on this homestand, I would have said it's not good enough. The good thing is we're still right there, other teams lost some, so even though it wasn't great...we're still right there.

All four losses that we took were just brutal; gut-punches. If we pull out one or two somehow, I think it's a decent homestand. But we didn't. Down the stretch we seem to always make some little mistake, and good teams make you pay. So a 4-4 homestand wasn't what we were looking for, but we'll keep fighting.

On why the team has trouble closing games...

I don't know. It's all about getting that one stop, that one rebound, that one score...and for some reason we haven't come up with those...you don't want to put yourself in a position where you have to rely on getting that one stop down the stretch, and we were up four numerous times today, if you get that just one more stop, one more rebound, the game would have been put away.

So you look at the errors you made and hopefully be better next time. But I'm assuming there will be plenty more...we have seven games left and all of them will be close. That's been what we're made of.

What's been hurting us on this homestand are some of these third quarters, teams have been crushing us, even if we do have a lead in the first half...gotta be better early in the game and gotta be better coming out of halftime.
