It was a sad day when news came down that Vince Carter was leaving Dallas. The Mavericks lost a great teammate, fantastic 3-point shooter and excellent locker room spokesperson.
They also lost their best dunker. Even at 37, Carter climbed the figurative ladder several times last several for violent throw downs, clearly making a case for quality over quantity. According to our 2013-14 Top 10 video earlier this summer, Vince Carter's jam over Robin Lopez was the best one of the year.
With Vinsanity's departure, we must ask the question: who will have the best single dunk next season?
Brandan Wright should lead the team in dunks and Tyson Chandler won't be too far behind, but most of their work around the basket is finishing simple passes and lobs.
Monta Ellis had a couple of nice finishes last year, but because of his height he generally sticks to the finger roll unless he's wide open.
Chandler Parsons is a possibility -- he's 6-foot-9, a perimeter player who constantly attacks the basket and doesn't hesitate to attempt a dunk. Granted, he'll also miss a handful of his most ambitious attempts, something I noticed when watching the film for that offensive breakdown I did a couple weeks back.
Want a dark horse? Richard Jefferson. I'm not kidding. Check out the video with his top 10 dunks of last season.
You know, it could even be Al-Farouq Aminu. He's got a few solid stuffs if you hit up his highlights on the YouTube.
I'll throw Eric Griffin in there too. He's clearly capable, but it would require him to a) make the team, b) be active on a game day and c) actually get the opportunity.
