The Dallas Mavericks have officially settled on their official roster, cutting Maurice N'Dour on Monday at the NBA deadline to trim their roster to a league-mandated 15 players.
The Mavericks had cut Samuel Dalembert, Jamil Wilson, Brandon Ashley and Tu Holloway (who had been signed in place of Jarrid Famous a few days ago) to get to 16 on Saturday, but took the extra two days to debate N'Dour's worth. In the end, as expected, they cut him loose. Here's what the Mavericks' depth chart looks like now.
PG | SG | SF | PF | C |
Deron Williams | Wesley Matthews | Chandler Parsons | Dirk Nowitzki | Zaza Pachulia |
J.J. Barea | Devin Harris | Justin Anderson | Jeremy Evans | JaVale McGee |
Raymond Felton | John Jenkins | Charlie Villanueva | Dwight Powell | Salah Mejri |
We all thought N'Dour had a realistic opportunity to make the roster, but he wasn't as impressive as he needed to be in the preseason and then got hurt halfway through. There's a good chance someone picks him up off waivers -- perhaps the New York Knicks, who he played for in Summer League and who have a spot left open on their roster.
And while I love a good project, I think N'Dour made sense as the Mavericks' final cut. Mejri needs to be on the team for depth at center, Villanueva is still a useful player to have and Felton has looked good in preseason, backing up the injured Williams, something he's known for.
The roster's good to go. Now we're just waiting for Wednesday to get here. Check out our season preview in the meantime!
