Mavericks look to rekindle offense against the Wizards

Dallas will face the Wizards for the second time this week.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas hosts the Washington Wizards tonight. Can we expect another solid win against the still-struggling Wiz?

What happened last time these teams met?

The Mavericks played the Wizards in Washington less than a week ago, and it was one of the team's best offensive performances all season, with Wes Matthews tying a franchise record for made threes in a game. This was helped in part by the Wizards missing several key players (though the Mavs were without Chandler Parsons), but it was a heartening boxscore nevertheless with the team shooting better than 50 percent from three and six Mavs in double digits, including a Raymond Felton double-double, naturally.

Why are the Wizards so bad this year?

Mostly injuries, an improved Southeastern Division, and some line-up experimentation, but you should read this piece from Bullets Forever if you're curious about the team's season.

What does Dallas need to do to be successful against Washington?

It's pretty obvious, but another good shooting night sure would help. The Mavs have been a frustratingly inconsistent shooting team this year, and it sometimes seems like each time they convince us they've righted the ship (remember when they shot 13-31 from three against the Knicks on Monday?), the open shots stop falling, as was the case against Atlanta on Wednesday.

Washington may have been struggling lately, but their front court won't be nearly as depleted as the last time these two teams met. Marcin Gortat will be back, and the team has replaced the floundering Kris Humphries with Jared Dudley in the starting lineup. This will be the Wizards' second game in as many nights, but that doesn't mean the Mavericks' offense can remain unfocused.

How to watch

As usual, the game will be on Fox Sports Southwest locally (or CSN Mid-atlantic if "locally" means in DC for you) and available via NBA League Pass elsewhere. Tipoff is at 7:30PM Central.
