The Dallas Mavericks announced Monday that starting point guard Rajon Rondo suffered an orbital fracture to his left eye as well as a nasal fracture when he was accidentally kneed in the face by Richard Jefferson. The injury occurred in the first quarter of the Mavericks' game against Orlando on Saturday. He stayed down for most of a TV timeout while bleeding profusely before walking back to the locker room.
Rondo will not travel with the Mavs on their upcoming road trip to California where they will play the Warriors and the Kings. He was previously ruled out of Monday's game against the Timberwolves.
Fortunately, the Mavericks have some depth at guard. Expect the minute totals to shake out similar to Saturday in Rondo's absence: Devin Harris played 30 minutes, J.J. Barea filled in with 18 and Raymond Felton played nine. Without Rondo, Dallas scored 108 points while beating the listless Magic.
