Charlie Villanueva agrees to minimum deal with Mavericks

Villanueva impressed the Mavericks last season by always being ready off the bench.

Free agent Charlie Villanueva has agreed to return to the Mavericks on a minimum deal for the 2015-16 season, according to ESPN Dallas' Tim MacMahon.

Charlie V was a designated bench shooter in Dallas last year, playing in 64 games while draining 83 three-pointers at a 38 percent clip. In fact, Villanueva's 16.4 three-pointers attempted per 100 possessions was the most in NBA history for anyone playing more than 400 minutes. He was always ready to shoot off the bench and made them enough that defenses had to respect him shooting on the perimeter.

For that reason, Villanueva's a great guy to have on the bench. He gracefully accepted that he's a minimum contract player at this point and was an excellent locker room presence. I predicted that Villanueva would almost certainly be back with the team, but it's good to see him officially return.

Of course, this is just a verbal agreement until teams can officially sign players when the NBA free agency moratorium is lifted on Thursday. Here's a look at how the Mavericks will try to finish their offseason.
