It's August, so I was diving through some old playoff performances and found this gem from Dirk Nowitzki. I had managed to erase every single memory of the Golden State series from my mind, so finding this footage was like watching it for the first time.
It's easy to forget just how athletic Dirk was in his prime. Watching both of these teams with fresh eyes made me realize how small the talent gap was between these two teams. Looking past Dirk's struggles, it was jarring to see how overmatched the Mavericks' backcourt was against the Warriors' big, skilled guards. Monta Ellis wasn't even particularly good in this series. Honestly, this series should have ended in five games. They were down nine with three minutes left and Dirk went supernova in the last three minutes.
Eight years removed from that series, we can just forget the rest of the series and enjoy this one pure Dirk moment.
